@夏多のMemory Teacher, should potted hawthorn be pruned in spring? How to prune?

Memories of late summer:

Have @wxd been pruned in winter? Take a look at the photos

wxd:

@ Memories of the end of summer, teacher, it looks like this now

wxd:

Have you cut it in winter? Forgot

Memories from late summer:

@wxd has been potted for several years, and I can see that the top branches have been retracted. There are too many thin branches at the bottom and should be cut off. This consumes nutrients, makes the plant shape unsightly, and has a low probability of flowering and bearing fruit. The top growth advantage should be ensured~

wxd:

Okay, three or four years.

wxd:

How to fertilize hawthorn? How to fertilize this season? @后夏Memories

Memories of late summer:

@wxd has been growing for 3 or 4 years. Have you never applied fertilizer before? Hawthorn likes organic fertilizer. During the growth and flowering periods, Fertilizer should be applied in the early stages of fruit enlargement and after fruit picking, that is, in all four seasons. You can dig a pit on the surface of the pot and bury it shallowly for top dressing. Organic fertilizers such as chicken, sheep manure, and cake fertilizer are commonly used. Of course, you can also apply compound fertilizers with different proportions of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium according to the different growth needs of each season. For example, when the branches and leaves are blooming in spring, you can topdress with a higher nitrogen content, and during the flowering and fruiting stages, you can topdress with a higher phosphorus content. After picking the fruits, apply a compound fertilizer with a higher potassium content in winter~

wxd:

In the past, I applied less fertilizer and was not very good at growing them. Now I know, thank you teacher!

wxd:

Last year it was the first time to bear fruit, and the knots were few and small

Memories of late summer:

@wxd hawthorn The size is not obvious from year to year. As long as the fertilizer keeps up and the tree becomes strong, the results will be more and bigger year by year. Of course, since this is a potted plant, you can just sparse and dense the small fruits appropriately, and keep the ratio of fruit branches and fruit leaves reasonable. Planting in the same field cannot be compared. Small trees will start to bear fruit after 3 or 4 years of cultivation. Don’t If you are demanding, don’t forget to cut off the thin branches at the bottom. If the inner branches are too dense, cross, overlap, or parallel, you can prune them away. The purpose is to allow all branches to have good lighting and ventilation, and reduce nutrient consumption~

Hawthorn Encyclopedia:

Hawthorn (Crataegus pinnatifida Bunge), also known as mountain fruit and mountain red, is a deciduous tree of the Rosaceae family, up to 6 meters high.

Hawthorn is highly adaptable and likes a cool and humid environment. It is resistant to both cold and high temperatures and can grow between -36 and 43°C. It likes light but can tolerate shade. It is generally distributed in barren mountains, sunny slopes, semi-sunny slopes and valleys. The slope is preferably 15 to 25 degrees. It is drought-tolerant. When there is too much water, the branches and leaves tend to grow leggy. The soil requirements are not strict, but it grows well in slightly acidic sandy loam with deep, fertile, loose and well-drained soil.
