How to prune azaleas
In the early stage of the growth and development of rhododendron, branches can be picked to promote growth, weak branches and transverse branches can be cut off, and leaves with outward buds at the lower part can be retained. The reshaped plants can prune the irregular branches, and cut off the weak branches and diseased branches in time, otherwise it will affect the germination. Generally, only after flowering, the buds around the buds should be cut off, and the residual flowers should be trimmed after flowering.

When will azaleas be pruned?

West rhododendron is usually pruned after flowering to cut off residual flowers and useless branches, which can ensure that there will be no excessive nutrient waste and make the plant recover faster.

Prune the branches and leaves of rhododendron

In the early stage of the growth and development of rhododendron, the branches can be picked up to promote the growth. For weak branches and transverse branches, the leaves with outward buds at the lower part should be cut off. For the formed plants, the irregular branches can be pruned, and the weak branches and diseased branches can be cut off in time, so do not prune vigorously, otherwise it will affect the germination.

Rhododendrons are usually pruned after flowering, which is beneficial to the formation of plant pattern in the future. Cutting off flower buds can accelerate the formation of bones when they are seedlings for 2 ~ 4 years. In the growing period, pruning long branches in time can control the shape of plants well. If the branches and leaves turn yellow, withered or damaged, they can be cut off, and abnormal branches must be cut off.

Pruning skills of rhododendron occidentalis

Rhododendron occidentalis grows slowly and is generally not pruned at seedling stage. If there are many branches after several years of cultivation, dense branches, slender branches, clustered branches and insect branches can be pruned in early spring, and the buds on the rootstock of grafted seedlings should be removed. Leaf buds around the buds should also be pruned to concentrate nutrition on the development of buds, and residual flowers should be pruned after flowering.

Pruning of branches of Rhododendron occidentalis

West azaleas are usually cut in May and June. First, mature tender stems with the length of 12- 15cm are selected, and the leaves at the bottom of the branches are cut off, leaving only the tender leaves at the top. Then, insert the branches into the fertile and loose soil, and the depth is about half of the branches. Pay attention to keep the soil moisture after planting, and it can take root and grow in about 60 days.
