Comparison between SBS modified waterproofing membrane and polyethylene polypropylene fiber

Project SBS modified asphalt waterproofing membrane polymer reinforced composite (polyethylene polypropylene fiber) waterproofing membrane

The product definition is a modified asphalt waterproofing membrane made of polyester felt or glass fiber felt as tire base, styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) thermoplastic elastomer as modifier, and polyethylene film, fine sand, powder or mineral particles (sheets) on both sides. Belonging to polymer modified asphalt waterproof coiled material.

Note: The construction temperature of SBS modified asphalt waterproofing membrane type II is above -25℃. Its core layer (main waterproof layer) is made of linear low-density polyethylene or its modified materials mixed with anti-aging, stabilizer and adhesion promoter. Its surface reinforcement layer is made of spunbonded polypropylene filament (or polyester filament) non-woven fabric. The core layer and the surface reinforcement layer are formed by hot melt direct pressing process, supplemented by high-speed mixing, hot melt, homogenization, extrusion, flattening, rapid cooling and setting. Belonging to synthetic polymer waterproof coiled material

Note: The construction temperature of polyethylene polypropylene waterproofing membrane is 5℃-25℃.

Material Properties The coiled material has excellent high and low temperature resistance, puncture resistance, scratch resistance, tear resistance, excellent ductility and high ability to withstand base cracking. Affinity, high plasticity, adhesiveness and compatibility make the coil suitable for various environments. But the resistance to root puncture is poor. Strong impermeability, high tensile strength, good flexibility at low temperature, large friction coefficient (rough surface), non-toxic and resistant to root puncture; High temperature resistance, aging resistance and poor stability.

Material lap seam coil seam adopts hot melt welding and electric wind welding. The seam material is the same as the parent material, and the seam strength is stronger than the parent material, which will never fail.

The construction is convenient and quick. The joints of the coiled material are mainly bonded with cement. The water resistance of joint adhesives is generally poor (after all adhesives are soaked in water, the bonding strength is reduced to varying degrees), and the bonded lap joints are easy to crack and leak after being soaked in water for a long time, so they cannot age synchronously with the coil. Moreover, joint construction requires a high level of construction operation, and whether it can be fully bonded and dense during construction is the key to waterproof success or failure.

The thickness of 1.2mm can be welded by hot air, but because the surface or back is covered with polypropylene non-woven fabric, the non-woven fabric will be baked off before welding during construction, which makes the construction complicated and the joint strength unreliable.

Material application 1, SBS coiled material can be tightly bonded and fixed with the base by hot melting, and once there is leakage point, it can effectively prevent leakage water from escaping. Moreover, the petroleum asphalt base treatment agent used in SBS coiled material itself forms a coating with certain waterproof function on the concrete surface, which strengthens the safety of the system.

2. The thickness of coil used in this project is not less than 4mm for single layer and not less than 6mm for double layer. The increase of the thickness of the coiled material effectively enhances the ability of the waterproof system to resist the puncture of sand and gravel particles and the zero extension fracture caused by cracks in the base. Polymer coils are difficult to do this. Adhesion makes the sand and gravel particles infiltrated into the modified asphalt coiled material gradually bond with asphalt to repair the waterproof defect.

3. In engineering applications, there are many coatings, caulking pastes and binders with asphalt or modified asphalt as the main body, which are compatible with SBS coiled materials and can achieve good airtight and waterproof connection; Therefore, the modified asphalt waterproofing membrane can build a very complex waterproof system to meet the waterproof requirements of various buildings.

4.SBS coiled material has strong plasticity, easy handling of detailed nodes and reliable construction quality. 1, the coiled material and the base are fixed by bonding, and the outstanding feature is that it can be directly bonded with cement materials. Once leakage occurs, it is easy to cause water channeling because the adhesive only adheres to the non-woven fabric of the coil and not to the core material. Because the initial adhesive strength of cement material is low, it takes some time to reach the required adhesive strength, which affects the adhesiveness of the coiled material, especially in the construction of vertical walls.

2. According to the national standards, the thickness of materials used in the project should be no less than 1.5mm for single layer and no less than 2.4mm for double layer. The thickness of the material is relatively thin compared with the modified asphalt coiled material, so it is difficult to completely avoid the sharp sand grains and pebbles left under the waterproof layer, which causes the coiled material to be punctured, and it is not easy to find and repair in time. And due to the limitation of both sides of the material, it is difficult to avoid the occurrence of zero extension fracture.

3. The coiled material has the ability to resist root puncture, but because of its thin material, it requires higher protection measures (at least 7cm of rigid protection of fine stone concrete is provided on the basis of flexible protection of non-woven fabrics), which increases the cost.

4. The coil cannot be in direct contact with mineral oil, vaseline, animal oil, etc. However, if the coil is in direct contact with aromatic hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons at a temperature above 80℃, the coil is prone to permanent deformation.

5. When the coiled material exceeds 1.0mm, the flexibility and construction performance decrease, and it is difficult to ensure the waterproof quality when dealing with detailed nodes.

Engineering Practice SBS modified asphalt waterproofing membrane system with the most mature products and technologies, the most complete system and the strongest adaptability to the underground engineering environment has been adopted for the underground waterproofing of National Swimming Center (Water Cube), National Stadium (Bird's Nest), Terminal 3 of Capital Airport, Beijing Metro Line 5, Line 4, 10 and Tianjin Metro.

Note: SBS modified asphalt coiled material is the "first product" in Document No.218 of the Ministry of Construction. The second heating process is prohibited for polyethylene polypropylene, and the thickness of polyethylene polypropylene below 0.5mm is restricted.
