Introduction to Tongque Terrace

Tongque Terrace is located 18 kilometers southwest of Linzhang County, Handan City, Hebei Province (Yecheng Town, formerly known as Xiangcaiying Township). It is a national key cultural relic protection unit.

In the late Han Dynasty, Cao Cao built the capital of Ye after defeating Yuan Shao, and built the three towers of Tongque, Golden Tiger, and Bingjing, which are known as the "Three Towers of Ye" in history books. They are the birthplace of Jian'an literature. It is 10 feet long and has more than a hundred houses. It is famous for its many inscriptions by famous people in the past dynasties. Linzhang was called Ye in ancient times. In order to avoid the taboo of Emperor Min Sima Ye in the Western Jin Dynasty, the city of Ye was renamed "Linzhang". It was named because it is adjacent to the Zhang River in the north.

During the Three Kingdoms period, Yecheng served as the capital of Cao Wei, Hou Zhao, Ran Wei, Qian Yan, Eastern Wei, and Northern Qi. It was the political, economic, cultural, and military center of northern China for four centuries, creating Linzhang enjoys the reputation of "the hometown of the Three Kingdoms and the ancient capital of the Six Dynasties" due to its splendid history and culture.

Cultural Relics Protection

According to the cultural relics protection department, the number of tourists visiting ancient times is constantly increasing. Linzhang County is planning to rebuild Tongque Terrace and other towers based on the original appearance of Santai during the Cao Wei Dynasty. Chengsantai, the project has been approved by relevant departments. According to the plan, in addition to rebuilding Santai, Santai Cultural Relics Exhibition Hall, Yecheng Model and Tongquetai Cultural Park will also be built.

Taiwan-style architecture in ancient China began in the Zhou Dynasty, grew in the Spring and Autumn Period, and the Warring States Period, and became increasingly perfect in the Qin and Han Dynasties. Cao Cao built three platforms in Yecheng, especially the Tongque Tower, which is a masterpiece of ancient Taiwanese architecture in my country.

Tongque Terrace was first built in the 15th year of Jian'an (210), and was expanded many times in the Later Zhao, Eastern Wei and Northern Qi. This is a large Taiwan-style building built on the basis of the Yebei City Wall. At that time, there were three towers built in Japan: the Jinfeng Tower in the front, the Tongque Tower in the middle, and the Bingjing Tower in the back. What did Tongque Terrace look like in history?

Maybe it looks similar to the one in the TV series "Romance of the Three Kingdoms". According to historical records, the Tongque Tower was ten feet high at its peak, and five floors were built on the platform, which was 27 feet above the ground. According to the Han system of one foot and seven inches of the market ruler, it is also 63 meters high. On the top of the building, there is a bronze bird, one foot and five feet high, with its wings stretched as if it were flying, and its expression is lifelike. Under the platform, water from the Zhang River was diverted through a secret passage through the Tongque Terrace and flowed into the Xuanwu Pond, where it was used to train naval forces. You can imagine the grand scene.
