Jinan University has five campuses in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai, with its headquarters in Guangzhou.
Jinan University (JNU for short) was founded in 1906, directly under the leadership of the Central United Front Work Department, focusing on the Ministry of Education, the Central United Front Work Department and Guangdong Province. It is the first overseas Chinese institution of higher learning established by the state in China. It is known as "China No.1 Overseas Chinese School", a national "world-class discipline construction university" and a national level.
The school's predecessor was Jinan School, which was founded by the Qing government in Nanjing on 1906. Later, it moved to Shanghai, and 1927 was renamed as National Jinan University. During his stay in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, he moved to Jianyang, Fujian. 1946 moved back to Shanghai,1949 merged with Fudan University, Jiaotong University and other universities in August. After the founding of New China, Jinan University was rebuilt in Guangzhou, 1958. Suspended during the Cultural Revolution, 1978 reopened in Guangzhou.
