The cultivation methods of close planting jujube orchards and sparse planting jujube orchards have changed greatly, and corresponding cultivation techniques are needed to adapt to them. The shaping and pruning of closely planted jujube orchards have the following characteristics:

The crown of (1) tree is smaller and the tree structure is simplified.

Because of the high density, the space left for a single plant becomes smaller. Therefore, it is impossible to use large, medium and large crown trees with the second highest level of trunk branches like jujube orchards, but mostly use small crown trees, which simplifies the tree structure and tends to be flat.

Commonly used trees are sparse, open-centered, Y-shaped, fan-shaped, cylindrical, hedge-wall-shaped, etc. The height of the tree is generally controlled at about 2.5 meters. The sparse layer shape of the trunk is generally simplified to two layers of main branches, and the number of side branches and branch groups is reduced accordingly.

(2) Pruning in summer is more important.

Compared with the sparse planting garden, the dense planting garden has more standardized requirements for trees, and the cultivation of trees and fruiting branches depends more on pruning in the growing season. Brushing buds, cutting wounds, pulling branches, removing cores and thinning branches have become the main means of pruning in dense planting gardens, while pruning tasks are relatively reduced during dormancy.

(3) Pruning measures, such as girdling and girdling, are widely used in advance.

Dense planting gardens often show vigorous nutritional growth in the early stage because of their short trees, concentrated nutrition and smooth transportation. Therefore, in addition to controlling vegetative growth by denucleation, girdling or girdling is often used in the early stage to promote fruit setting, and the fruit is the crown. Because the trunk of young trees is thin, it is often cut dry and main branches in the early stage, and the trunk is peeled off after it is strong.

(4) Thinning branches is an important means to prevent jujube orchards from closing.

The most common mistake in pruning close-planted jujube orchards is that jujube orchards are closed because of too many branches. Clearing dense branches in time is one of the important tasks in the middle and late stage of dense planting garden. At the same time, strictly control the growth of elongated branches, retract and lower their heads in time, and maintain a certain crown product and branch quantity. Only in this way can the jujube orchard remain high and stable.
