Cedar is usually pruned in spring and summer every year. Cedar pruning can control the length of branches, enlarge the crown, adjust the crown balance, promote the thickening of branches, change the top advantage of branches, and control the crown shape and size.
How does cedar prune its branches and leaves?
Soft cutting: This is the least harmful cutting method for cedar. Just cut off the branches with a plant length of 1/3. This pruning method is more conducive to the growth of branches and has less influence on the whole branches. Medium short cutting: Compared with light short cutting, the trimming length is longer, about half of the length. The function of middle and short branches is to help the further development of branches, which is mainly beneficial to the middle and lower branches. Re-cutting: This is not common when cutting cedar. About two thirds of the long branches need to be cut off. Strong cutting is very stimulating to plants, so try not to choose strong cutting.
Cedar pruning skills
Because of the irregular rotation of cedar lateral branches, too many, too small spacing and uneven distribution of nutrients, the growth of each lateral branch is often uneven. Therefore, when pruning, it is required to arrange side branches in layers on the trunk, pay attention to protecting new shoots, and remove over-dense branches, over-thin branches and pests and diseases.
