Alma? Lydia. Morani graduated from new york University in 1928, and received her doctorate from Pennsylvania Women's Medical College in 193 1. After that, she transferred to St. James Hospital in Newark, New Jersey as a female surgical intern. A year later, she returned to the Women's Medical College, from 1932 to 1935, becoming the first female surgical resident in the hospital. 1935, she became an assistant surgeon and served until 1938.

Alma? Lydia. Morani is regarded as the first female plastic surgeon in the United States and the first female member accepted by the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. During World War II, Dr. Morani volunteered to perform reconstruction surgery for the wounded soldiers in Valle Fargo Hospital, and joined the International Medical Women's Association.
