Ma, female, 73 years old, retired worker, first diagnosed on August, 2008 15.
Pain under the right rib for 2 days. At the beginning, because of emotional failure, the pain increased, such as coughing, taking a deep breath, turning over, body rotation and so on. Since the illness, pain has affected diet, sleep, emotional tension and anxiety. Check the edge of the seventh rib for tenderness. Red tongue, thin white fur and tight pulse.
Western medicine diagnosis: intercostal neuralgia.
TCM diagnosis: hypochondriac pain. Syndrome differentiation is stagnation of liver-qi, obstruction of collaterals by blood stasis, and pain due to obstruction.
Treatment principle: activate qi, promote blood circulation and relieve pain, and choose Neiguan point.
Acupuncture method: make the patient sit or lie on his back, with his forearm flat on the table, with two inches across the wrist, between the two tendons, on the radial side, and use a 28-gauge stainless steel needle with an inch of 1.5 to prick more than 1 inch. Sour swelling and numbness appeared, and the pain under the right rib was relieved immediately after twisting for about 2 minutes. Leave the needle for 30 minutes and twist it every 10 minute/time until you feel sore and numb. Only 1 time was processed. Repeated follow-up, not repeated within six months.
