How to make Chimonanthus praecox into bonsai
Types of bonsai: Chimonanthus praecox has many excellent characteristics suitable for bonsai, which can be used to make various types of bonsai, such as: straight-drying, oblique-drying, horizontal-drying, bent-drying, dry-drying, split-drying, double-drying, multi-drying, cliff-hanging, stone-attached, co-planting, hanging branches and so on. According to the size of the stump, it can be made into large, medium and small bonsai, and it can also be made into miniature bonsai (basin diameter 10cm or less). Chimonanthus praecox is also suitable for making bonsai with Nandina domestica, and yellow flowers and red fruits set each other off. Dig wild piles.

Modeling:

1. Cut branches with a knife. According to the habit of Chimonanthus praecox branches healing quickly, folding easily and knotting difficultly, the modeling design of Chimonanthus praecox branches can generally be carried out in the growing period, but it is best to do it when the buds have just sprouted and the leaves have not yet unfolded. When the knife is cut, it forms an angle of 45 with the longitudinal axis of the branch, and the depth can reach two-thirds of the diameter. Generally, according to the size of the folding angle, the small angle can be shallow and the large angle can be deep, and the required shape can be achieved without folding branches. After folding, it can be fixed with iron wire, and the incision can be wrapped with plastic tape. It can only be removed after the incision has healed.

2. Panza. During the growing period, branches can be cut off with a knife, or tied up after watering. Generally, after being coiled with iron wire, it meets the requirements one after another.

Trim. Generally, trim modeling is combined at the end of flowers. Cut off the branches that do not conform to the shape of the main branches, and cut them at an angle of 45 degrees in front of the leaf axils at 0.5- 1cm. Pay special attention to the bud direction of leaf axils.

4. Choose your heart. This is an important modeling method. Generally, there are 2 ~ 3 pairs of leaves, which can be selected, and a pair of leaves can be used if necessary. Kernels can be picked 2 ~ 4 times a year, so that the main branches can be shaped quickly.

There are about four ways to shape branches.

(1) upward branching type, also called antlers type. The main branches and branchlets mainly bend downward, grow from less to more, and their shapes are more natural, mainly by pruning and coring.

(2) Cross-branch type, the main branches and branches grow nearly horizontally, and the branchlets can be slightly upward, which is formed by rolling branches, pruning and coring.

(3) Vertical branching type, the main branch is curved, and the branches and branchlets are all downward, which is mainly formed by cutting and rolling branches with a knife.

(4) The main branches and branches are bent, and the branchlets can be bent or straight. It can be rolled and shaped, and can also be trimmed to remove the core, giving people an ancient and beautiful feeling.
