Can dental implants be reimbursed by medical insurance?
Not all dental implants can be reimbursed by medical insurance.

As a means of dental restoration, dental implants are not covered by medical insurance reimbursement at present. According to the current medical insurance policy, medical insurance reimbursement mainly covers therapeutic dental projects, such as tooth filling, tooth extraction, treatment of pulpitis or periodontitis. When these treatment projects are carried out in designated medical institutions, patients can use social security cards for medical insurance settlement. However, dental restoration and beauty projects, such as porcelain teeth, dental implants, orthodontics, tooth washing, tooth whitening, etc., are usually not covered by medical insurance reimbursement. This is because these items are often regarded as non-essential medical services or medical beauty, and patients need to pay for these services at their own expense.

Conditions for reimbursement of dental implant medical insurance:

1. Dental implants are usually not covered by medical insurance reimbursement;

2. Medical insurance reimbursement usually only covers basic dental treatment such as tooth filling and tooth extraction;

3. Dental implant is regarded as a cosmetic plastic surgery project, and it is a self-funded project with orthodontics;

4. Dental treatment reimbursement needs to go to the designated medical institution and prepare relevant materials. Dental implants cannot be reimbursed through this process.

To sum up, dental implants, as a means of dental restoration, are not covered by medical insurance reimbursement at present. Medical insurance reimbursement usually only covers therapeutic dental projects, while dental implants are regarded as cosmetic and plastic projects, which belong to self-funded projects similar to orthodontics. Therefore, patients need dental implant services at their own expense and cannot use medical insurance to settle accounts.
