Introduction to the examination of college four
CET-4 is held in May every year. The proposition group of CET-4 for English majors is responsible for the proposition and implementation.

1. Exam format

In order to better assess students' ability to use various basic skills, taking into account both the scientificity and objectivity, the feasibility and the characteristics of the English proficiency test at the basic stage, and to ensure the reliability of the test paper, this test adopts multiple-choice forms except the writing and dictation parts. The subjective test part aims to better test students' ability to use language flexibly, so as to improve the validity of the test paper.

second, the content of the exam

this exam has six parts: first, writing, dictation, listening comprehension, cloze, grammar and vocabulary, and reading comprehension. The first two parts take 6 minutes, the last four parts take 8 minutes, and the whole exam takes 14 minutes.

I. writing (parti: writing)

test requirements

(a) It is required to write a short essay of about 15 words according to the given topic and the listed writing outline or chart, numerical statistics, etc. (with the writing outline also attached). Can achieve the content to the point, complete and clear, the article structure is rigorous, the grammar is correct, and the language is fluent and appropriate. The exam time is 35 minutes.

(b) Write a note:

Write a notice, note, invitation, etc. of about 5-6 words according to the prompt. Correct format and appropriate language are required. The exam time is 1 minutes.

Question type:

This section is divided into subjective questions, which are divided into two sections: SectionA and Section B.

SectionA: composition

This section is a composition, and the topic mainly belongs to narrative, explanatory or argumentative writing.

SectionB: Note-writing)

this section is about writing notes.

purpose of the test:

according to the requirements of the syllabus, test the students' ability to express their thoughts in English in writing at the end of the basic stage.

ii. Dictation

Test requirements:

(a) Students are required to write the whole essay word for word on the basis of a comprehensive understanding of the content.

(b) Spelling and punctuation are correct, and the error rate shall not exceed 8%.

(c) The examination time is 15 minutes.

Question type:

This section is divided into subjective questions. Dictate the whole article about 15 words and read it four times. Read aloud at normal speed for the first time. The recording speed is 12 words per minute. < P > Let the students understand the main idea of the passage. Read aloud at a slower speed for the second and third times, with a gap of about 15 seconds between sentences or clauses, so that students can write. Read at normal speed for the fourth time, and let the students check.

Test purpose:

Test students' comprehension and writing ability, spelling proficiency and correct use of punctuation marks.

Selection principle:

(a) The subject matter is extensive and the genre is diverse.

(b) The language difficulty of the article shall not exceed the provisions in the syllabus.

(c) The article is about 15 words long.

iii. Listening comprehension (partih: listening comprehension)

Test requirements:

(a) Be able to understand the speeches or conversations of English-speaking people about daily life and social life, and the difficulty is equivalent to the listening materials such as minitalk in TOEFL, understand the main idea, grasp the main points or plots, and be able to reason and analyze according to the listening materials.

(b) Be able to understand the main contents of international news of VOA and BBC.

(c) The examination time is about 2 minutes.

Question type:

The listening comprehension part is a multiple-choice question, divided into three sections: SectionA, SectionB and SectionC, with 25 questions.

sectiona:

for each statement with two or three sentences, * * * has 7-9 questions.

section b:

each question contains a group of dialogues, about three sentences, and * * * has 7-9 questions.

sectionc:

After several VOA or BBC listening materials, there are multiple-choice questions, * * * 7-9.

There is a gap of about 1 seconds after each question in the listening section. Candidates are required to choose the best answer from the four options given in the test paper. The recorded language

is about 12 words per minute. Read it again.

Test purpose:

Test students' ability to obtain oral information.

Selection principle:

(a) The statement part is a general sentence reflecting daily life, which is slightly difficult.

(b) The dialogue part is a dialogue that generally reflects daily life, and the sentence structure and content are slightly difficult.

(c) General news reports, short comments or speeches familiar to students from VOA and BBC short listening materials.

(d) The words used in statements and dialogues shall not exceed the range specified in the glossary of the syllabus for Band 4. The words used in VOA and BBC listening materials should not exceed the above range as far as possible.

iv. Cloze

Test requirements:

Candidates are required to choose the best answer on the basis of a comprehensive understanding of the content of the given essay to restore the meaning and structure of the essay. The examination time is 15 minutes.

Question type:

This question is a multiple-choice question. There are fifteen blanks in an essay of about 25 words, with familiar subject matter and moderate difficulty. Each blank is a question, and each question has four options. Fill-in-the-blank words include structural words and substantive words.

purpose of the test:

to test students' comprehensive ability to use the language.

v. grammar and vocabulary (partv: grammar and vocabulary)

test requirements:

(a) be able to flexibly and correctly use all the contents of the grammar structure table of the syllabus from level 1 to level 4.

(b) Be familiar with 2,-2,5 words and their most basic collocations among the 5,-6, cognitive words specified in the vocabulary of the syllabus.

(c) The examination time is 15 minutes.

Question type:

This section is divided into multiple-choice questions, consisting of 25 questions, each with four options. About 5% of the topics are the usage of words, phrases and phrases, and about 5% are grammatical structures.

Test purpose:

Test students' ability to use vocabulary, phrases, grammatical structures and basic grammatical concepts.

ⅵ. Part VI reading comprehension

Test requirements

(a) Reading comprehension:

(i) Able to read moderately difficult articles and materials published in Britain and the United States, and master the gist and general idea of the materials read.

(ii) Understand the facts and details that explain the main idea and general idea.

(iii) You can not only understand the literal meaning, but also make certain judgments and inferences based on the materials you read.

(iv) Understand both the meaning of individual sentences and the logical relationship of the context.

(b) Fast reading:

(i) I can read about 9 words of moderately difficult chapters in 5 minutes.

(ii) master the main idea and general idea of the materials read.

(iii) Understand the facts and details.

(c) The examination time is ***3 minutes.

Question type:

This section is divided into multiple-choice questions and divided into two sections: SectionA and Section B.

SectionA: reading comprehension

there are several short articles in this section. The essay is about 15 words long. After each essay, there are multiple choice questions. Candidates should choose the best answer from the four options in each question according to the content of the article. ***15 questions

SectionB: SkimmingandScanning)

There are several short articles in this section. The essay is about 9 words long. After each essay, there are multiple choice questions. Candidates should choose the best answer from the four options in each question according to the content of the article. * * * Ten questions. The examination time is 5 minutes.

purpose of the test:

the reading comprehension part is to test students' ability to obtain information through reading. Both accuracy and speed are required.

The fast reading part is to test students' ability to obtain information through fast reading. It requires both quickness and correctness.

Selection principle:

(a) The subject matter is extensive, including society, culture, daily knowledge, popular science knowledge, biographies, etc. However, the background knowledge involved should be understandable to students.

(b) Various genres, including narrative and expository; Argumentative papers, etc.

(c) The language difficulty of the article is moderate, and the vocabulary used is basically within the range specified in the vocabulary of the syllabus for Band 4.

(d) The materials in the fast reading section are similar to those in the reading comprehension section, but relatively easy. Genre can also include advertisements, instructions, etc.

answering questions and scoring

this exam is divided into test paper 1 and test paper 2. Test Paper 1 (PartI and PartII) is a subjective question, and candidates are required to write their composition and dictation directly on the answer sheet with a pen or ballpoint pen. Subjective questions are graded according to the unified grading standards. Test paper II (PartIII, PartV, PARTV and PartVl) is a multiple-choice question, requiring candidates to choose the best answer from the four options A, B, C and D given in each question, and underline the answer sheet with 2B pencil as required. The answer on the test paper is invalid. Only one answer can be selected for each question, and multiple choices will be invalid. Multiple-choice questions are only the number of correctly answered questions, and no points are deducted for wrong answers. Multiple choice questions are marked by machines. Each part of the test paper is converted into a percentage system by the method of remembering weights. Score 6 as the passing standard.
