Planting method of weeping elm

The propagation of elm mostly uses elm as rootstock for branch grafting and bud grafting. Subcutaneous grafting can be carried out from late March to April, and grafting can be carried out with new buds in June. Whether it is branch grafting or bud grafting, as long as the rootstock scion is handled first, the operation is serious and the maintenance management is strengthened, it can survive. After planting, according to the characteristics of fast growth and pruning resistance, the branches are trimmed. For plants with small spacing and little space, the branches are bound to suppress the strong and promote the weak, correct the crown deviation, and make the branches droop evenly. When the hanging branches are close to the ground, they are cut from about 30 to 50 centimeters above the ground, and their shape is like a green cylinder, which is very distinctive.

1. Introduction and grafting

From 65438 to 0974, Xinjiang Forestry Department organized forestry scientific and technical personnel to collect seed strips in Gansu Province and introduce them to Xinjiang. The grafting propagation experiment was successful the following year. It is a cultivated variety selected from Ulmus pumila widely cultivated in China.

2. Grafting method

In the middle and late March, the sap has started to flow. In the case of peeling, skin grafting is chosen, which is a common method in branch grafting, and is mostly used for high grafting and head changing.

Insert the cut scion between the xylem and cortex of the rootstock, keep the long section close to the xylem of the rootstock, and then bind it with plastic strips, requiring tight binding (to prevent the scion from falling off or loosening; Prevent air drying grafting; Prevent rainwater from infiltrating). At the same time, the spring ear should be bagged to reduce transpiration and water loss.

3. Rhizome treatment

Saw or cut off the elm to be grafted at the required position, and the cross section should be perpendicular to the branches, and flatten the cross section with a knife to facilitate healing, and wipe off other buds on the rootstock.

4. scion treatment

Cut the scion into 2 ~ 3 cm long sections. If the scion is thick, the section is slightly longer. Cut the back of the long section into a section of about 1cm, so that the lower end is slightly pointed to form a wedge shape. The scion leaves 2 ~ 3 buds, and the thickness of the scion is 0.3 ~ 0.5 cm. It is best to cut each section with one knife. The scion is cut off during connection to prevent air drying.
