How should Liriodendron be pruned?
Liriodendron is a genus of Liriodendron in Magnoliaceae, which is native to China and mainly distributed in the provinces south of the Yangtze River Basin.

Liriodendron has a regular tree shape, strange leaf shape, light yellow-green flowers, beautiful but not bright, and yellow autumn leaves. It is a beautiful shade tree and street tree species.

It can be planted individually or in groups, which is most suitable for planting on the lawn in the quiet rest area of the park.

Liriodendron is a deciduous tree.

The trunk is tall, the crown is conical or rectangular, and the height can reach 42 meters.

Bark is grayish white, smooth or with shallow longitudinal cracks.

Simple leaves alternate, light back, jacket-shaped, truncated or slightly concave at the apex, with one row on each side.

Peanut is cup-shaped, like a golden cup at the end of a branch. The outer perianth is light green, the surface has white hair, and the inner wall is orange and yellow, which is big and beautiful.

The flowering period is from April to May, and the male and female flowering periods are different.

Aggregate fruit is spindle-shaped with winged nutlets. The expiration date is 10 month.

Liriodendron enjoys light, with warm and humid climate and certain cold tolerance. The growth temperature is 20℃, and it can tolerate the low temperature of-15℃.

I like deep, fertile, moist, well-drained acidic or slightly acidic soil (pH 4.5 ~ 6.5), and I don't tolerate poor soil to avoid drought and water accumulation.

Liriodendron is a uniaxial branch. When I was young, the top advantage was strong, but it didn't last. Especially after the terminal bud blooms, the branch morphology will change, and the germination ability and callus ability are weak. Therefore, it is generally not deliberately shaped, but allowed to grow naturally.

Central leaders or more leaders can do it, but they are basically shaped with trees, and only a few branches with bad orientation can be thinned out, and no pruning can be done.

Maintenance and pruning shall be carried out after the growth stops in autumn, and miscellaneous branches are generally arranged, and old trees may be updated as appropriate.
