According to the seventh census data, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Taojiang County was 685,596.

In July 1951, the sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and eleventh districts of Yiyang County were analyzed and Taojiang County was established. Taohuajiang Nuclear Power Station is located in the west of Taojiang County and 20 kilometers upstream of Zishui. Famous scenic spots in the territory include Fuqiu Mountain, Phoenix Mountain, etc. Taojiang County is known as "Beauty's Nest", "Qu Yuan's Second Hometown", "Hometown of Nanzhu", "Hometown of Tea", "Hometown of Building Materials", "Hometown of Non-ferrous Metals", etc.
