Method for collecting and making wax leaf specimens

1. Collection of plant specimens: representativeness and typicality are required when collecting specimens in the field. Herbs generally require the integrity of roots, stems, leaves, flowers (or fruits), so it is necessary to dig out the roots with a small shovel; Woody plants should cut off branches without pests and diseases, with flowers or fruits, and the length is about 25-30cm. At the same time, the specimen should be labeled; Take notes at the same time.

2. Finishing: Put the collected specimens on absorbent paper and arrange them so that their branches and leaves stretch and remain in a natural state. Leaves should be opposite and positive. When plants are used more than 30 cm, they can be bent into V-shape, N-shape or W-shape.

3. Flattening and drying: this is the key link of waxed leaf specimens. Usually, every few layers of absorbent paper are laid on the specimen rack, and one specimen is placed. Then tie the specimen tightly with a rope and put it in a ventilated place. In order to speed up the drying of specimens, the paper should be changed in time every day to make it completely dry.

At present, some people can quickly dry plant specimens by microwave heating.

4 Installation (Paper)

Wax leaf specimen: a plant or a part of a plant, which is called after being pressed, shaped and dried; Wax leaf specimen.

Mounting refers to binding wax leaf specimens on a piece of cardboard (table paper).

There are many ways to fix the plant wax leaf specimen on the table paper, such as small paper, adhesive tape, thin thread or paste. At present, yellow or green lines are mostly used for binding, so that the color is similar to the specimen.

When ordering, we should pay attention to the proper position of the specimen, without any part exposed, with the roots facing down as far as possible and the leaves facing the opposite side. A specimen can be ordered in 3-8 rows and can be tied to the edge of the table paper with double lines. After loading the surface paper, paste the specimen field record label on the upper left corner of the surface paper, and paste the specimen identification label on the lower right corner. Only the upper two corners of the upper label are firmly attached, and all four corners of the lower label can be firmly attached. After loading paper, wrap the specimen in quarto paper and put it in the specimen cabinet.
