Chinese toon used to be a wild vegetable, but as its nutritional value becomes more and more recognized, it has now become a "tree noble" in the vegetable category, causing it to be cultivated artificially in many areas.
So how do you grow toon to achieve high yield and high quality? Let’s learn about it together.
1. Seed selection issues
Dwarf dense planting cultivation has relatively high requirements for toon varieties, so when selecting, it is best to choose ones with easy-to-control tree shape, early germination, and good quality. Varieties, such as the red toon variety.
In terms of sowing, seedlings are usually raised by direct seeding. When the seedlings reach a height of 1m, the top buds are wiped off to promote the growth of side branches. They can be transplanted into the garden next autumn.
During the live broadcast, you can choose two methods: net seeding, dwarf and dense planting (plant-to-row spacing: 50cm), and interleaved live broadcasting, dwarf and dense planting (wide and narrow bands, wide band 4-5m).
2. Tree-shaped cultivation
When cultivating toona in dwarf and dense planting, the tree-shaped cultivation work should be started from the seedling stage. Specifically, multiple table-shaped, broom-shaped, and dwarf-shaped trees can be cultivated. Dense and scrubby types.
Among them, the multi-stand type seedlings are 2m high, and the tree body is roughly divided into three layers, 40cm, 60cm and 70cm respectively. This type of tree has good cold and drought resistance and relatively stable yield; the broom type The height of the seedlings is about 1m, and each plant retains 4-5 toon heads; when the height of the short-stem intensive seedlings is about 1m, start picking the top buds to promote new shoots, and then harvest according to the growth conditions; the bush-like type When the seedlings are 1.5m high, the top buds are picked to promote new shoots, and the "pit" planting method is used, with 3-5 plants in each hole.
3. Plastic pruning
The purpose of plastic pruning of Chinese toon is to promote the shaping of dwarf tree shape. On the other hand, it is also to increase the number of Chinese toon buds. The production of Chinese toon is generally topping and short cutting. Methods such as pruning, stubble cutting, girdling, and root cutting. Topping and short pruning are usually carried out in June-July, leaving 15-25cm of one-year-old branches for topping or short pruning. Then, the second time is carried out around early August according to the growth of the branches. Topping or short cutting; stubble cutting is mainly for renewing seedlings and old trees that are more than 2 years old. The time is about mid-to-late June, not too early, otherwise it will increase the difficulty of later management;
Girdling is mainly It is for the vigorously growing primary and secondary lateral branches. It should be carried out from the end of May to mid-to-late June. The girdling should be 15-20cm away from the base branch axis and the girdling width should be 0.5-1.0cm. The roots should be cut off, usually from late June to July. It is carried out in the first ten days of the month, mainly to cut off the main roots in the 30-40cm area of ??the saplings, thereby promoting the germination of lateral roots and expanding the root width.
Orchardists should conduct selective pruning processes based on the actual conditions of their own orchards in production.
4. Harvesting and storage
The current year’s yield and harvesting time, harvesting interval, annual harvesting times, harvesting methods and postharvest of dwarf and densely planted toon Processing etc. are closely related.
The more common harvesting method is to harvest multiple times a year, in batches, to ensure a supply of fresh buds every year.
To be specific, when the new shoots grow to about 25cm in spring, cut off about 15cm of the top shoots to promote the germination of side buds. When they grow to 25cm, remove the lower 20cm of tender shoots. Buds, then harvested every 20 days, about 6-10 times throughout the year.
After harvesting, attention should be paid to the storage environment to prevent leaves from falling off, rotting, and wilting.
Generally speaking, when we store, we need to control the temperature in the storage room at 0-1℃, the humidity at about 80%-85%, and at the same time absorb the ethylene gas in the storage room. In this way, it can be about Store for about 1 month.
The above are the four major measures to change the model of toon planting. These practices can effectively increase the yield and quality of toon, allowing growers to obtain greater benefits.
