Calcification point of breast refers to calcium deposition that can be seen on mammography. There are two types of breast calcification: macrocalcification and microcalcification.
Macrocalcification is usually a degenerative change of breast, which is mainly caused by injury, inflammation or aging of mammary artery, and is usually unrelated to cancer.
Microcalcification is a kind of calcium spot, which may be found at the site of rapid cell decomposition. The residue left by these rapidly decomposing cells can show microcalcification. When they appear in large numbers, it means that there is a possibility of small tumors.
