"Three-character Classics" for Indoor foliage plant maintenance
Indoor foliage plants, due to the different growth environment, are often not dominated by human will and specific ornamental requirements, and the longer they are preserved, the worse the ornamental effect will be. Therefore, in order to cultivate indoor foliage plants and maintain their ideal ornamental effect for a long time, artificial pruning and shaping are essential in the growth process.

Select top

Topping, also known as topping, is to remove the tiny growth points at the top of the plant, thus destroying the advantages of its branches or the top of the plant, prompting two or more hidden buds (or latent buds) at its lower part to sprout new branches, and promoting its multi-branching, multi-flowering and beautiful plant shape.

This method is widely used in plant regulation of indoor foliage flowers. In order to get better results, sometimes the terminal bud can be picked 2-3 times continuously, so that a terminal bud can sprout 6-8 branches. Terminal buds are usually used for ornamental plants, such as herbs or shrubs. At the same time, it can also inhibit the excessive growth of plants by picking the top center, promote the full growth of branches, make flowers and fruits bigger and have better ornamental effect.

Clever pruning

Branch thinning: including thinning branches, leaves, buds, flowers and adventitious buds. When flowers and plants grow too vigorously, resulting in too dense branches and leaves, some branches should be thinned or too dense leaves should be removed in time to improve ventilation and light transmission conditions, so that flowers can grow stronger and flowers and fruits can be more colorful. Potted flowers should also be pruned frequently for dead branches, dead leaves and leaves damaged by pests and diseases, so that the plant shape is neat and beautiful. Leaf-watching flower varieties with stripes and leaves are formed by germination of green plants. The growth of green branches is stronger than that of mottled and mosaic branches, so it is necessary to prune them in time to prevent green branches and leaves from being covered with mottled and mosaic branches and maintain the characteristics of the original varieties. It should be noted that conifers such as five-needle pine are not suitable for defoliation.

Potted flowers such as camellia often form too many buds. In order to make this potted flower bloom well, the buds can be properly thinned. Dewatering buds should be carried out as soon as possible to avoid consuming nutrients. Generally, it should be carried out when flower buds and leaf buds can just be distinguished, and 1 ~ 2 flowers can be left on each twig, and all the extra buds are broken off. For potted flowers that are not ready to harvest seeds, the residual flowers after opening should be cut off in time to avoid consuming nutrition.

Try to bridge differences.

There are many mosaic varieties in indoor ornamental plants, such as banyan and hibiscus. Is formed by the bud change of green leaves. In the process of culture, there is often atavism and completely green branches grow. These completely green branches are called heterobranches. Different branches do not have the characteristics of this variety, and because they grow much faster than the mosaic branches, if they are not cut off in time, the mosaic parts will soon be covered and lose the characteristics of the original mosaic varieties. Therefore, attention should be paid to cutting off all green branches sprouting on plants at any time to maintain the normal growth of mosaic foliage plants.

Wipe your head again

Leaf-watching plants, such as rubber tree, Millennium tree, Liriodendron, and pollen leaf of King Daidai, will grow too high with the extension of indoor planting time, and some lower leaves will fall off in large numbers, with uneven branches, loose plant shape and poor ornamental value. This plant should be refreshed by repainting. The specific method is: before the new buds sprout in spring, cut off all the upper parts of the plants and let them regenerate branches and leaves. The height of the trunk depends on different plants.

At the same time of plastering, it is necessary to comprehensively improve the root growth environment, thoroughly clean up the rotten roots and old soil in pots and pans, and replant sterilized new soil to promote the rapid germination of new roots and accelerate the perfection of new roots and the formation of new plants.
