Snowman-huge and exquisite layout
Joe Nesbo [Norway]

Naisberg is said to be the king of Nordic mystery novels, and The Snowman should be the first novel written by him that I read. This story is the first in the detective Harry Holler series. Many writers like to create a policeman, forensic doctor or detective with obvious image characteristics, and then write a series of case stories. This series of novels looks very interesting. I feel that the characters in the novels will not disappear because of the end of one story, and they will look forward to reappearing in the next novel.

When I first saw Snowman, I always felt foggy. First of all, it really makes sense for Nesper to be evaluated as the king of Nordic mystery novels. In this novel, he has laid a very large and exquisite game, and he has quietly incorporated many details into the plot of the story. Looking back the second time, I realized that those seemingly casual details were actually set by the author in advance. For example, when Harry was chatting with Matthias, Matthias mentioned his incurable disease, and among the diseases, even Stallman, who was the first to go to Harry's house to clean up mold, played a vital role in the development of the whole case. Such details are incorporated into almost every part of the novel, and it is really amazing to read it carefully.

Secondly, if the Snowman is compared to a killing game, a large number of civilians are killed by mistake in this game. After killing five people by mistake, the real murderer didn't appear until the sixth. Not to mention whether the reasons why the first five civilians were killed by mistake are convincing enough. As far as this layout is concerned, you can imagine how big it is to put so many civilians, killers and policemen in it.

Also, there are so many characters in the snowman, when I looked at the second time to sort out the role list, I thought that the relationship between the characters was clearer. I'm not good at remembering the names in foreign novels, but there are as many as 49 characters in the snowman, and I haven't written down some really unimportant characters. As a result, these complicated characters have caused me great trouble when I read them for the first time, and it was not until I read them for the second time that I found that because of my own roughness, many previous characters were confused. In addition, the author's writing technique is also fragmented, switching from the past to the present, switching from this scene to another scene, the rhythm is very fast, if the characters can't remember clearly, it looks really dizzy.

The whole novel looks like walking in a forest shrouded in fog, which is always a bit confusing. Until finally, the real snowman began to recall the whole killing process, the fog suddenly disappeared, and the scenery in the Woods suddenly became clear. That kind of feeling is really good, and the more you look back, the more you can't stop.

I'm not going to read it for the second time, because after reading it for the first time, I don't think highly of this novel. I think the author's reason for misleading five civilians into snowmen is too far-fetched. No one can be the real murderer, especially Katrina, who took revenge at the first sight of her father. How can she be a snowman? I feel that the author has found a bunch of naive reasons to achieve his goal of constantly reversing the plot. Then, I intend to write a reading note to talk about my inner grievances, so I sorted out the list of characters in the book, that is, I read the whole story when sorting out the list of characters. This time, I finished reading it, so I showed the author's brilliant means, and my reading notes changed from derogatory to commendatory.

This is a good novel, which is worth reading. You should read it carefully from beginning to end. Next, I'm going to watch Cheetah and see how our Harry continues to turn the tables on Gan Kun in the new story. This time, I will definitely remember the names of all the people who appeared on the scene and the details that appeared in Junas' works, and appreciate another huge and exquisite layout. I am looking forward to it!
