There are "shadows" and "shady scenes" in front of patients with high myopia. Is it retinal detachment?
Miss Chen from Putian is 28 years old and her eyes are nearsighted by more than 700 degrees. Five years ago, Ms. Chen had an operation on her left eye due to retinal detachment, which is also commonly known as "detachment". At the beginning of last year, Ms. Chen found a shadow fluttering in her right eye. After a few months, the shadow grew bigger and bigger. Only when I went to the hospital did I know that her right eye also had retinal detachment.

"Retinal detachment mostly occurs in patients with high myopia above 600 degrees. People with high myopia have thinner retinas than normal people, and the probability of shedding will be higher due to the increase of axial length. " He Jianzhong, vice president of Fuzhou Eye Hospital and director of fundus department, said.

A 28-year-old woman suffered from retinal detachment

Ms. Chen is 28 years old and comes from Putian. Ms. Chen is very nearsighted when urinating, and her eyes are suffering from pathological myopia, with a myopia degree of more than 700 degrees. Five years ago, her left eye had retinal detachment, and she was sent to the hospital for surgery by Director He Jianzhong, and her vision recovered. At the beginning of last year, Ms. Chen found many black shadows similar to floaters in her right eye. After a few months, she felt that her vision was blurred and there was a shadow fluttering in front of her eyes. Before long, the shadow grew bigger and bigger. Ms. Chen was a little worried, thinking that she had been disconnected from the internet five years ago, so she went to the hospital again.

Director He Jianzhong of Fuzhou Eye Hospital found that Ms. Chen had vitreous opacity in her right eye. After careful examination of the retina, seven holes were found near the periphery of the retina, which was diagnosed as rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in the right eye. Director He Jianzhong told Ms. Chen that when the retina was torn, a small amount of bleeding entered the vitreous with the rupture of retinal small vessels, so she would feel a shadow fluttering in front of her eyes. At the suggestion of Director He Jianzhong, Ms. Chen underwent surgery to repair the retinal tear and avoid further retinal detachment. After the operation, Ms. Chen felt that the shadow disappeared and her corrected vision reached 0.9.

When she was discharged from the hospital, Ms. Chen came to the third ward of Fuzhou Eye Hospital with two banners: "Kindness brings light, kind hands warm people's hearts" and "amiable and beautiful angel", and handed them to Director He Jianzhong and Head Nurse Weng respectively.

If there is a shadow in front of you, you should treat it in time.

It is understood that rhegmatogenous retinal detachment is retinal detachment caused by retinal breaks. He Jianzhong, director of Fuzhou Eye Hospital, explained, "Retinal tear is caused by vitreous shrinkage, which leads to detachment of vitreous from retina, and vitreous traction leads to retinal tear." Prolonged retinal detachment will eventually lead to blindness and eyeball atrophy. "Therefore, when there is a black shadow in front of your eyes, it may be an early symptom of retinal detachment. At this time, surgery should be performed in time to close the hole and reset the retina. " Director He Jianzhong stressed.

"It is particularly important to master the timing of treatment for retinal detachment." Director He Jianzhong said that at the initial stage of the disease, it is only retinal tear. It is enough to seal the tear with laser first and then treat it with drugs, and the visual function is less damaged. If the retinal detachment is already serious, different operations should be taken to reposition the retina according to different conditions.
