Academic Characteristics of School of Mathematical Sciences, Liaocheng University
The motto of the college is "virtue, erudition, dedication and actuarial science". The general program of hospital management is: "Teaching quality is the foundation of survival, and scientific research level is the driving force of development". The general principle of educating students is "aim high, be down-to-earth, be virtuous and cultivate one's morality, be knowledgeable and versatile, and govern the country and level the world". The goal of study style construction is "having both ability and political integrity". In order to boost morale, the "Courtyard Song" was specially created. After several generations of inspirational efforts, the college has gradually moved towards today's glory from small to large, from weak to strong. Professor Wang Deying, the first president of the college, is a famous expert in mathematics education at home and abroad, and later became the president of Shandong Institute of Light Industry. Under his advocacy and leadership, the theoretical research of mathematics education has become a common practice in the college. It is based on this accumulation that the college obtained a master's degree in "Mathematics Curriculum Teaching Theory". Professor Yang Zixu, the second president of the College, is a famous algebraic scientist at home and abroad. As early as 1979, he enrolled graduate students majoring in algebra. He is rigorous in his studies, advocating equal emphasis on scientific research and teaching, and basically laid a "serious and down-to-earth" teaching style and study style in the Institute of Mathematics. His works Advanced Algebra and Modern Algebra are designated as university textbooks by the Ministry of Education, which are relatively rare in normal universities in Shandong Province. After the management of several deans, the College of Mathematics has developed rapidly. Today's Mathematics Institute ranks among the top universities in Shandong Province in terms of teaching quality, scientific research level, students' admission rate for postgraduate entrance examination, undergraduate enrollment rate, first choice enrollment rate and first employment rate (ranked first in the whole school in 2005). Today's College of Mathematics has formed a good school spirit of "being pragmatic, realistic, practical and solid". Teachers earnestly preach, teach and dispel doubts, while students interrogate, think carefully and distinguish. The passing rate of CET-4 and CET-6 is more than 20 percentage points higher than the national average, and the proportion of undergraduates obtaining master's degrees exceeds 40%, reaching 53% in 2002.
