Where is Chiang Mai? Chiang Mai Free Travel Guide

The place we decided to travel this time is Chiang Mai, Thailand. Due to the local environment and unusually rich herbaceous plants, it is often compared to the nickname "Northern Rose". It was also the site of the late Singer Teresa Teng’s favorite town!

Tips written in front

1. The Thai Baht is recommended in China If you can exchange it well at the bank, the exchange rate is the most cost-effective. If the exchange rate is not enough, the exchange rate at the exchange shop on Ningman Road will generally be higher than that in the ancient city.

2. There will be a long queue for a visa on arrival. It is recommended to apply for the visa in advance. It is recommended to find the visa on Taobao. Apply through "Baicheng.com"

3. Thailand tourism is mainly about temples, and the dress code is strict, so be sure to do your homework in advance

4. Recommend several mobile apps: google

maps (Google Maps, in a country where you can drive a motorcycle freely, you deserve it); tripadvisor (TripAdvisor, the owl logo that can be seen everywhere in Chiang Mai, food guide, much more practical than Dianping) ; Eat, drink and have fun in Chiang Mai (a guide software favored by domestic tourists, a friendly partner of Han Chiang Mai Travel Agency); As for Ctrip and Mafengwo, it depends on personal preference

DAY1

To save money For travel funds, we chose to take AirAsia’s red-eye flight from Guangzhou to Chiang Mai at 00:05 in the morning. We had to transfer in Bangkok on the way and needed to spend one night at Bangkok Don Mueang Airport.

AirAsia tips (written for friends who have never flown AirAsia)

AirAsia departing from China needs to print a boarding pass and show your pre-printed e-ticket at the AirAsia counter at the airport and luggage tickets (AirAsia will send you an email after booking, and you can check in online about 10 days in advance). The staff will print your boarding pass to Bangkok and handle the check-in for you. AirAsia flights departing from abroad can use e-tickets to board the plane directly. Therefore, when flying from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, you only need to show the pre-printed e-ticket and check in your luggage directly to Chiang Mai without picking it up halfway. At Bangkok Airport, be sure to take the transfer lane without leaving the airport. After arriving at Chiang Mai Airport, be sure to pay attention to the staff holding a sign in the aisle, which will write your name and tell you which direction to go to pick up your luggage, which is different from other places for direct passengers to pick up their luggage. (We didn’t pay attention and almost missed Σ(

°△°|||)︴) It was super cold at Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok in the early morning, so remember to bring more clothes!

We arrived After arriving in Chiang Mai, immediately ask the staff at the taxi service center opposite the airport exit to call a taxi, get on the bus with the bus ticket written by the staff, and take 250B to the ancient city. Our first stop was the women's prison massage parlor recommended by a friend. It is located on the back of the Three Kings Monument and at the crossroads. When we arrived, the queue had already reached 11 a.m. (This Mashaji parlor has a limited number, so remember Try to arrive as early as possible!)

While waiting, we walked to the nearby "Han Chiang Mai Travel Agency" and booked tickets for a jungle leap, a one-day tour of Chiang Rai and tickets to PAI County. The travel agency provided an airport drop-off service. , the overall price is similar to booking on Ctrip, the front desk speaks fluent Chinese, and communication is barrier-free.

At 11 o'clock we returned to the Mashaji shop on time. The online introduction said that this Mashaji shop was opened to help service personnel re-employ. The technicians are serving personnel and the charge is 200B per hour. The price It is very cheap and very comfortable. It left an excellent impression on us when we first arrived in Chiang Mai.

After the massage, we took a songthaew to Ningman Road to check in at the hotel. The hotel is called Chanette, a loft industrial style hotel located next to the Internet celebrity store Mango

Tango , the decoration is very unique, the front desk is very welcoming, the only drawback is that there is no elevator.

The first thing we did after putting down our luggage was of course to fill our stomachs. We went straight to the Internet celebrity store Local

Cafe, which is located at the intersection of Ningman Road and opposite the Maya shopping mall. The big cat in the bag is its symbol. I ordered the extremely beautiful watermelon ice, cheese cake, rice and noodles. They were all delicious. The large floor-to-ceiling glass environment is quite good and not expensive. Recommended!

Since we didn’t sleep well at the airport the night before, we didn’t go anywhere in the afternoon, so catching up on sleep was the most important thing.

Walking around on Ningman Road in the evening, I randomly walked into a restaurant called KhunMorCuisine on Ningman 17th Street. I unexpectedly found that the chicken rice and clear rice noodles I ordered were both very good. eat.

DAY2

The next day we planned to visit Suthep Mountain to visit Shuanglong Temple. We asked the hotel front desk in advance how to get there. , the lady at the front desk said that it is best to take a chartered songthaew to Chiang Mai University. The price is relatively cheap. We took a songthaew directly on Nimman Road to Chiang Mai University, 80B for two people. After arriving at the main entrance of the university, I happened to see a songthaew driver soliciting passengers to go up the mountain. It costs 160B to go back to the university from Mount Suthep. If you return to Nimman Road, it costs 40B for two people.

The trip to Doi Suthep is basically a mountain road with many sharp bends, and it takes about half an hour to drive. But thanks to the driver’s driving skills, I vomited as soon as I got off the car___The driver told us that the tour time is For an hour and a half, he was waiting for us in the parking lot. Shuanglong Temple charges a temple maintenance fee of 20B per foreigner. The entire Shuanglong Temple is magnificent and condescending. You can also see the panoramic view of Chiang Mai city. It is indeed worth opening your eyes.

After we came down from Mount Suthep, we asked the hotel lady to help rent a motorcycle. The rent was 270B a day and we needed to keep our passport. After renting the car, we set off for lunch. Our original plan was to go to Anchan

Noodle to eat blue noodles as recommended in the guide, but we found out after we sat down that we went to the wrong restaurant. Also called Anchan's shop, the full name of this restaurant is AnchanVegetarian

Restaurant, which is a vegetarian restaurant. Because I was too hungry, I didn’t want to change places. Who knew that when I opened the menu, it was only in English and Thai, and there were no pictures. I couldn’t understand it Σ(°△

°|||)︴ so I had to open the TripAdvisor APP , pointing at the pictures on the APP and clicking on a few. When the dishes arrived, I found that the color was beautiful and looked very good. After trying it, I found that the taste was also very surprising! It is delicious! It is worth mentioning that it is the 7th restaurant in Chiang Mai on TripAdvisor.

-Address: Nimmanahaeminda Road Opposite Soi 13

After lunch, it was about 3 o'clock. While there was still time, we decided to ride a motorcycle around the ancient city and visit the most famous one in the ancient city. Check out Chedi Luang Temple. There were not many tourists in the afternoon, and coupled with the reflection of the setting sun, the pagoda looked so dazzling. It was a good time to take pictures. In front of the pagoda, people felt so insignificant. Looking at this temple full of history The architecture is in awe.

▲This is the main hall of Chedi Luang Temple. The monks are sitting neatly and chanting sutras, followed by devout believers.

In the evening we went back to the Maya shopping mall on Ningman Road for a stroll. I saw in the guide that there is a Dhara there

Dhevi sells pretty good macarons. I accidentally checked Weibo again. I found that there is an open open-air platform on the top floor of Maya, with a panoramic view of Ningman Road. There are two bars on the open-air platform. There are many local young people spreading dog food here, so pay attention. On the way back to the hotel, we went to the Internet celebrity store next to the hotel, Mango

Tango, known as the "Thailand Xu Liushan", and tasted a variety of mango specialty desserts.

▲On the left is DharaDhevi’s macaron combo pack, you can freely match the flavors, 200B for six, but too sweet; on the right is the Internet celebrity shop Mango

Tango’s mango sticky rice is a bit more delicious than the one sold on the street. It’s okay to take pictures, but I don’t recommend it.

DAY3

On the third day, we are going to do the jungle flight that we are most looking forward to during our trip to Chiang Mai. We are going to play the most popular route Jungle

Flight, see I felt very attracted by the introduction. We had made a reservation with Han Chiang Mai Travel Agency before. The driver arrived at our hotel door on time at 8 o'clock. The jungle leaping place is in the suburban mountains, and it takes about an hour's drive from the hotel.

After arriving, the staff will guide you to put your belongings in the storage box, and then ask each person to sign a "death certificate". If you need the full name follow-up service, we will give you two more people at 1800B. Thinking that we wouldn't be able to bring our mobile phones to Feiyue, we asked for this service. Then we were a team,

9 people, led by a coach, an assistant and a photographer, and we started to make a leap!

The coach is very nice and can speak English Speaking a little Mandarin, everyone felt very nervous before starting the leap, and some said they were afraid of heights and so on. But when the instructor took us over the first platform, we could see that everyone felt relaxed. Because the safety measures are really sufficient and the instructors are very professional and will guide and help you along the way, you don’t feel weightless and you are not afraid at all, and the feeling of flying from tree to tree is really refreshing, the most authentic It is a 400-meter and 1000-meter super long ropeway. It is super exciting. The split wall is recommended. This is definitely a must-do project when you come to Chiang Mai!

After the jungle leap, everyone was high and finished lunch. Then we embarked on the return journey in a happy mood. After we returned to the hotel on Ningman Road, we packed our luggage and took a songthaew directly to the KOKOPALM

INN Hotel in the ancient city to check in. This hotel has a convenient location and has the feel of a residential courtyard. ,very good.

It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the hotel to Tha Pae Gate. There are many shops for eating and shopping nearby, and next to it is the main road of the ancient city. We went to Tha Pae Gate in the evening and walked around. There were many pigeons in Tha Pae Gate Square. There was a vendor selling feed next to it. A small bag cost 20B. After buying the feed, he can also help you make the pigeons fly together and create a picture. Free photos are provided. Serve.

It was getting dark, so we chose to have dinner at an Italian restaurant called Ugo

Bar&Restaurant next to Tha Pae Gate. We went here specifically because it was ranked 11th on TripAdvisor. , ordered two pastas, 2 drinks and 1 salad. The portion was larger than we expected! It couldn’t be finished by 2 people, and the price was not expensive and tasted good! Recommended!

- Address: 47MoonMuangRoadNextdoortothethapaeBoxingStadium

After dinner, walk straight ahead through Tha Pae Gate. It takes about 15 minutes to reach Changkang Road Night Market. The weekend night market only opens on weekends, but Changkang Road opens every day. If you can't make it in time, you can come here to have a look. Passing by a stall selling banana pancakes called Rotee, the stall owners were three old grandparents. A small queue formed in front of the stall. I quickly bought one to try, but it was so sweet.

DAY4

On the fourth day, we signed up for a one-day tour of Chiang Rai. The bus came to pick us up at 7 o'clock in the morning. All one-day tours are about 10 people. The group's van tour was quite comfortable. The tour guide is fluent in English and can speak simple Chinese. The regular route of the Chiang Rai tour is to visit the Black Temple in the morning and the White Temple in the afternoon, including a simple lunch. There is one drawback. We pass through the Long Neck Village on the way. Our tour fee does not include visiting the Long Neck Village, but if someone in the same car signs up In order to visit the project, we had to wait for him to finish the visit before leaving together, which resulted in a slight delay in time.

It takes about 3 hours to drive to Chiang Rai. The road is flat, it is very comfortable to sit on, and you don’t need to take motion sickness pills. Let’s go to the Black Temple first. The Black Temple is a museum owned by a famous local artist. It collects the bones of various animals and a bunch of strange things. It is a place full of imagination and art. I don’t understand it well anyway. , it’s good to open your eyes.

After lunch, we set off to the White Temple. I had seen many pictures of the White Temple on the Internet before and thought it was a beautiful temple. But when you go to the site and see this work of art in person , all you can feel is shock, I am so shocked. It is really a rare large-scale artwork. It is definitely one of the essences of Chiang Mai tourism. You must see it! Entering the gate of the scenic spot, we kept taking pictures along the way. , passed the Hell Bridge and walked into the temple, I felt that I had experienced reincarnation and was touched. We always feel that 1 hour of browsing time is a bit short. In addition, there is a golden toilet built with a lot of money in the scenic area. Going to the toilet is so luxurious, it is a great experience. The tour guide said that with the ticket, you can go to the service desk to get a booklet introducing the White Temple, which has a Chinese version. After visiting the White Temple, we headed back to Chiang Mai and stayed at KOKO

PALMINN at night.

*** took the bus for more than 6 hours that day and felt a little tired. The first thing I did when I returned to the ancient city was to go to LILA near the hotel and make a herbal medicine. It cost about 80 yuan for an hour and a half. I felt much better immediately, but I think in terms of cost-effectiveness, it is still not as good as the women's prison (?ˉ? ˉ?)

DAY5

On the fifth day, we set off to PAI County. We bought tickets in Han Chiang Mai in advance and took Prempracha’s Mini

Van costs more than 30 RMB one way. A driver will pick you up at the hotel door at the agreed time, then take you to a station outside the ancient city, and then transfer to PAI County.

Chiang Mai is 133 kilometers away from PAI County, with 762 curves. The roads are all asphalt roads but the roads are bumpy. Friends who are prone to motion sickness should bring their own motion sickness pills! Remember to take motion sickness pills! Remember to take motion sickness pills! Remember to take motion sickness medicine! Advice! The journey takes about 3 hours. After arriving at the station, I immediately went to buy a ticket for tomorrow's return trip. I found that there were only tickets left at 14:00, so I bought it decisively.

We booked Montes Resort in PAI County. It is a resort-style hotel with a very good environment and is so comfortable that I want to stay in the hotel without going out. There is a golf cart to pick you up and drop off the hotel. If you want to go to PAI County, a van will be arranged to take you there. The service is so attentive!

For lunch, we randomly found a restaurant recommended online in the city. NongBeer

Restaurant, the taste is too ordinary, the green papaya salad is simply a fighter in dark cuisine. After lunch, we rented a motorcycle from the motorcycle shop next to the station for only 200B a day, so cheap!

We drove freely on the roads in PAI County, checking in along the check-in route, passing by Take pictures in the upside-down hut, big tree swing, and small yellow house.

In the evening we went directly to the night market in PAI to find dinner. The night market in PAI County was much more interesting than the night market on Changkang Road. They sold a lot of food along the way. We saw a Chinese mother’s food stall recommended online and clicked on it. Got the cold yellow noodles, which tasted good. I also tried a local wonton, which tasted pretty good too.

DAY6

In the morning, we got up with difficulty at around 5 o'clock and drove our motorcycles to Yunlai Observation Deck to watch the sunrise! It was cold and cold along the way. It turned out that There is winter in Thailand too! Yunlai Observation Deck is not far from our hotel. We passed the Chinese Village on the way, and the roar of motorcycles broke the original tranquility of the small village. "Yunlai", as the name suggests, is a group of people who settled here from Yunlai. It costs 20B per person to go to the observation deck to watch the sunrise. After buying the ticket, you will be given a pot of tea. If necessary, you can also order one. Breakfast, steamed buns, porridge, etc.

When we arrived, the available seats were almost full. And then wait, because it rained the day before, the clouds were very thick, and it was bright. In the end, the sun did not show up, and only a little light was revealed. Unfortunately!

We had to go down the mountain and go back to the hotel for breakfast. , after breakfast, we rode a motorcycle to continue the unfinished check-in trip yesterday, visiting the Strawberry Fields, World War II Bridge, etc. There were few people along the way, so we could take pictures of all kinds of road wind. It was so high. We really liked the feeling of riding freely.

After checking in, having lunch, we set off on the journey back to the ancient city. The driver drove so fast along the way that I vomited again___The first thing I did when I returned to the ancient city was Tha Pae Gate collected supplies for tomorrow’s Chiang Mai Marathon and checked into the Nai Boutique Hotel near Tha Pae Gate. The hotel is Thai-style and very unique.

In the evening, we walked south along the moat for about 10 to 15 minutes to Wuallai Road, where the Saturday night market is. Since we left Chiang Mai on Sunday afternoon, we could not experience the largest weekly market. Day and night market, a little bit regretful. The Saturday night market is very lively, and the entire Wuallai Road is full of vendors selling all kinds of unique things. The night market is very large, and we had a lot of fun shopping along the way. In the end, our feet were a little tired and we didn’t reach the end. Advice, advice! If you see something you like at the night market and the price is OK, buy it. Don’t think about buying it when you come back from shopping, because it will be closed when you come back!

DAY7

< p> Finally the day came to run the Chiang Mai Marathon. In fact, we had booked this trip to Chiang Mai in advance, but later we found that December 18th coincided with the annual Chiang Mai Marathon. We have never run a marathon before. , decided to join in the fun and registered through the domestic Yirun website. Although it is only a 3km mini run, I am determined to participate, hahaha.

▲The marathon clothes are black. In order to commemorate the King of Thailand, they changed from the previous colorful ones

. Before we set off, our friend said that the King of Thailand had just passed away and it would be very chaotic so we shouldn’t go. But in fact, Chiang Mai is very safe. Don’t worry, Thailand’s safety index is very high.

People who ran the 42km marathon started running at 5 o'clock. When we gathered at 7 o'clock, most of the people who ran the full and half marathon had finished. But when we arrived at the starting point, the scene was still very lively. People from all over the world gathered here, like attending a grand party.

On the way to the run, I could always see the cheerleaders organized by each school cheering for the runners. I was immediately infected by this enthusiastic country! The 3km run was completed quickly, and we felt that we could actually apply for the 7km. Because I’m not tired at all! You can get your medal immediately when you reach the finish line, and there’s food and drink at the supply point.

Today is the last day of the trip. In order to avoid regrets, we decided to experience a local SPA in Thailand. After carefully selecting from various recommended software, we finally chose Deep

Relax’s SPA charges about 400 RMB per person for 2 hours. The SPA is actually a traditional Thai massage with essential oil on the back, but it was so comfortable that I fell asleep?

After the SPA, we followed TripAdvisor’s food recommendations and found Kanjana in the north of Thailand nearby. In addition to the delicious Thai noodles, I think several other Thai side dishes are also quite good, recommended!

-Address: 7/2RatchadamnoenRd, Soi5RatchadamnoenRdSoi5

We rented another motorcycle in the afternoon , visited the remaining two of the three major temples in Chiang Mai, Wat Chiang Man and Wat Phra Singh. The two temples have their own characteristics. Wat Chiang Man is a temple full of age, and Wat Phra Sing is the highest-level temple in Chiang Mai. The pagoda is magnificent and has a different feeling from the one seen at Shuanglong Temple.

At the end of the trip, we went to Boots and Herb near Tha Pae Gate to buy souvenirs, returned the car, and checked out. The driver responsible for drop-off at the airport in Han Chiang Mai came to pick us up on time. I couldn't let go of Chiang Mai at the airport, not wanting to let go of the fun in Chiang Mai, the horses and chickens, the food, and the warm and friendly Chiang Mai people! Goodbye in Chiang Mai! Looking forward to our next meeting in Chiang Mai!

Travel summary

1. We went there in December. The weather in Chiang Mai is not as hot as Bangkok. You can wear long-sleeved clothes, but it is very sunny. Pay attention to sun protection. The night is very cool.

2. AirAsia flights to Chiang Mai are the cheapest from Hong Kong and Macau, and the flight time from Macau is very good.

3. If you can, try to exchange more money, because there are so many delicious and fun things. Of course, many stores accept credit cards and Alipay for payment.

4. You must do it when you come to Thailand, otherwise it will be in vain?!

5. I highly recommend Chiang Rai, you must go! There is also a jungle leap , it’s so exciting and well worth the experience!

6. Herb’s aromatherapy essential oil products are very good, affordable and easy to give away.

7. It doesn’t matter if you can’t find the restaurant recommended in the guide, just go to any one, it won’t be too bad, and it will save time in finding a restaurant. Anyway, we had several meals like this solved.

8. Chiang Mai Airport is very small, so don’t expect to buy all the souvenirs at the airport. Just buy the ones that suit you when you go shopping.
