Although it is not only the national flower of Malaysia and Panama, but also the state flower of Hawaii, Hibiscus is originated in China and has a long history of cultivation. As early as the Han Dynasty, Shan Hai Jing recorded that "there are hibiscus flowers on the Tang Valley", while the Jin Dynasty's "Southern Vegetation" recorded that "its flowers are deep red like hibiscus, so it is called Zhu Jin" and "deep red with five flowers".
There are many varieties and colors of hibiscus. According to petals, it can be divided into single petal, compound petal, pink, yellow, cyan, white and so on. Among them, the crimson double petals are slightly similar to peony, which is relatively rare, so it has the name of Zhu Jin Peony.

Fusang, also known as Zhu Jin Peony, is native to southern China. It likes warm and humid climate, is not cold-resistant, frost-resistant and shade-tolerant, is suitable for growing in sunny and ventilated places, and has low requirements for soil, but it grows best in fertile and loose slightly acidic soil, and the winter temperature is not lower than 5℃.
● Breeding
Commonly used cutting and grafting propagation. Cutting can be carried out except in winter, but the survival rate is high in rainy season. One-year-old semi-lignified cuttings are the best, the length is 10 cm, the terminal leaves are flat, and the cuttings take root about 3 weeks after cutting. Grafting is mostly used for double-flowered varieties that are difficult to cut, either by branch grafting or bud grafting, and the rootstock is single-flowered hibiscus.
Planting and cultivation
Potted hibiscus flowers should be changed every spring and trimmed. Fusang is more fertilizer-tolerant, applying 1 time every month during the growth period, and applying 2-3 times more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer during the flowering period. Insufficient light makes the buds fall off easily, and the flowers become smaller and the color is dim. Nanjing area must be moved indoors in winter.
● Pests and diseases
Leaf spot, anthracnose and sooty blotch often occur, and 70% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder 1000 times can be sprayed. Pests include aphids, red spiders and moths. Can be sprayed with 10% pesticide emulsifiable concentrate for 2000 times.
