How to trim and reshape osmanthus?
Plastic trimming 1. The selected tree osmanthus fragrans has strong germination ability, many dense branches, no obvious difference between branches, and uniform thickness. Its tree shape and crown growth have great plasticity. The shape of the tree is mainly a natural plant shape, and it can also be modified into a regular shape, such as a sphere or a hemisphere. 2. Pruning technology 1. Shrub: When osmanthus trees grow naturally, more tillers can sprout at the base of plants near the root neck, forming a shrub. After the seedlings are planted, they can grow naturally in the first year. In the second year, depending on the growth situation, 3-5 thick branches are selected as the backbone branches for culture, and the branches that are too dense can be thinned. In the third and fourth years, we should pay attention to the balanced growth of backbone branches, and the branches in the crown should be properly loosened to avoid being too dense, which will prevent the tree branches from being cut short or cut off, and the sprouting strips at the base are often cut off. When the plant height is above 1m and the crown diameter is around 1m, you can leave the nursery. Shrubby plastic surgery can sometimes have a low trunk, and the branches planted on it can also be regarded as clustered trunks. Shrubby shape accords with the natural growth characteristics of osmanthus fragrans. During the nursery cultivation, the plastic operation is simple, the pruning amount is light and the crown is expanded quickly, which is the most widely used plastic method for osmanthus seedlings at present. 2. Natural straight trunk shape: Osmanthus fragrans can also form a single trunk shape or a Gao Qian shape as a whole, which can be used for planting in the shade or beside the road. The trunk height of osmanthus fragrans with single stem should be determined according to the cultivation goal. After planting seedlings, strong and upright branches should be selected as the trunk, and the rest branches can be cut off. Select a stout bud as the cutting bud on the branch left as the trunk, and remove the other opposite bud at the same time, so that only one new shoot grows upward as the trunk extension branch, and the second and third pairs of buds under the cutting should also be stripped to avoid competition for branches. After that, you should smooth all the new buds on the trunk, or leave a few short branches for coring and drying, and then cut them off in winter. If the growth of trunk extension branches can not reach the target height, continue to cultivate trunk in the second year or even the third year. At this time, it is necessary to choose the bud opposite to the extension branch of the previous year, so that the trunk can grow straight up, which is called grafting. After grafting, the trunk can be fixed when it reaches the target height. Above the fixed stem height, 3 ~ 5 lateral branches should be selected as the main branches, and the upper part of the main branches can be lightly cut to promote the expansion of new branches. Branches and sprouts below the fixed stem height should be cut off at any time. It takes about 3 ~ 4 years to cultivate single-stem osmanthus fragrans, in which 1 ~ 3 years is mainly to cultivate the trunk, and the planting distance should not be too wide. Proper close planting can make the trunk extend upward. In the 4th-5th year, the lateral branches were cultured, and the crown structure was gradually completed. The cultivation of dry osmanthus fragrans is suitable for varieties with strong dryness, such as Jingui and Dangui. Osmanthus fragrans seedlings have developed roots, vigorous growth and strong dryness, and are easy to develop singly. Grafted seedlings with Ligustrum lucidum or water wax as rootstock grow fast in the early stage and become seedlings quickly. However, due to late incompatibility, with the continuous growth of the tree, the interface is easy to break. Therefore, this grafted seedling is not suitable for going it alone, and the seedling should be used as the rootstock. Because of its weak drying property, it is difficult to make a single dry shape. 3. Transplanting and pruning: Plastic osmanthus trees should be planted or transplanted with soil balls, and the survival rate of osmanthus is high. Under normal circumstances, too dense branches and leaves can be properly sparse, so that the crown is transparent, the tree shape is not principled, and pruning should not be too heavy. If the clay ball is damaged or transplanted out of season, it is necessary to increase the pruning amount and cut off more small branches and leaves to reduce evaporation and promote survival.
