Use Photoshop to restore MM’s white and beautiful teeth in three simple steps
The first step is to use a quick mask to locate the teeth
The part we want to repair is the character’s teeth , therefore, in order not to affect other parts of the picture, we must first select MM's teeth and exclude other parts.
There are many ways to create a selection. Today we use the Quick Mask Tool to make a selection. Its main advantage is that it is simple and fast to operate, and it is very suitable for local selections.
First, in order to prevent misoperation, press the "Ctrl+J" key combination to copy the background layer. Then, find the Quick Mask tool button at the bottom of the left toolbar. Click it to enter the Quick Mask working mode.
In this working mode, ensure that the background color is black. Press the "Ctrl+Backspace" key combination. At this time, the entire screen will be filled with red, indicating that no elements in the screen are selected. Next, use the brush tool, set the foreground color to white, and set the brush opacity and flow to a lower level (in this case, set the opacity to 41% and the flow to 46%), and paint at the position of the teeth in the picture. The red color disappears from the back teeth, indicating that the teeth have been selected.
After completion, we click the Quick Mask Tool button again to return to the normal working mode, and PS will automatically generate a tooth selection for us.
For the convenience of operation, while keeping the selection, we press the mask button in the layer panel to generate a mask for the background copy layer. The range protected by this mask is the same as the picture on the left. The tooth selection in is exactly the same.
The second step, use the curve command to eliminate yellow teeth
After completing the production of the tooth mask, we can start to correct the color of the teeth. Observing the example picture, we found that MM’s teeth are yellow, so we want to make MM’s teeth brighter.
Press the "Ctrl+M" key combination to open the curve command dialog box. Click with the mouse on the curve to generate control points, and adjust the control points upward to brighten the teeth. Through curve adjustment, MM’s teeth immediately became brighter.
However, after careful observation, we still found that MM’s teeth are still a little yellowish. Now we will use the last resort to completely eliminate the big yellow teeth.
Step 3: Adjust hue and saturation to completely whiten teeth
The hue/saturation command can finely adjust the color in the picture and is a commonly used color correction tool. By pressing the "Ctrl+U" key combination, we can quickly open the Hue/Saturation command dialog box.
There are three adjustable sliders in the dialog box. Hue controls the color tendency, saturation controls the concentration of the color, and brightness controls the brightness value of the color. The drop-down menu on the slider can choose whether to adjust the entire image. Make adjustments or adjust for specific colors.
In this example we need to reduce the amount of yellow in the teeth, so we choose to adjust the yellow in the Hue/Saturation command. We then move the Saturation slider to the left to desaturate the yellow color to -30, and slide the Lightness slider to the right to increase the Lightness value to +100.
After simple adjustments, we found that MM’s teeth had a completely new look, and a pair of fresh and white teeth appeared in front of our eyes. After whitening her teeth, MM also became refreshed, healthier and more beautiful. Such a simple operation, but the effect is remarkable.
Tip: In PS, there is actually a fool's tool that can quickly whiten teeth. It is the "Dodge Tool". Select the Dodge Tool, set the brush size to about 10 pixels, and select "Midtone" for the range. , set the exposure to about 75%, paint the teeth slowly and carefully, you will find that the character's teeth will slowly turn white.
Of course, although the operation of the fool tool is simple, sometimes the painted teeth do not look very natural
