The changes that have taken place in Ningbo in the 60 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China and the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Ningbo. Recently, I looked through two documents that have been preserved for 60 years, and what happened 60 years ago is vivid in my mind.

The first information is a "map of our army's march", which was printed by the Lushui Newspaper Office of the 22nd Army of the 7th Corps of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. I have collected it since 1949.

On January 10, 1949, the Huaihai Campaign ended victoriously. I was in the supply department of the Third Column of the East China Field Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Later, the column was officially reorganized into the Second Column of the Seventh Corps of the Third Field Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Twelve Army.

I remember that we set out from Jiawang in February 1949. At that time, I was a clerk in the Military Practice Section of the Logistics Department of the Military Ministry. The Military Affairs Section is responsible for the supply of ammunition and supplies for the entire army, and I often serve on the front line. On April 21, our one-million-strong army crossed the Yangtze River and liberated Nanjing in one fell swoop. On the 24th, we followed our brother troops across the river in Wuhu, Anhui, and entered the mountainous areas of northern Zhejiang via Nanling, Xuancheng, Guangde, and Wukang. Hangzhou was liberated on May 3, and our army has arrived at Sandun Town, Yuhang, on standby. In mid-May, it passed through the Qiantang River and advanced along the Hangzhou-Ningbo Road to eastern Zhejiang. At dawn on May 19, all our troops arrived on the west bank of the Cao'e River. The 65th Division was in Dongguan and the Cao'e area; Junzhi and the 66th Division were in the Daoxu Town area; the 64th Division was in Fanjiang City. The enemy in front of us was the enemy 221 The 663rd Regiment and the Coastal Defense Brigade of the division guarded Cao Ejiang in an attempt to prevent my advance, but they were unable to withstand a single blow from our army. On May 23, our army liberated Yuyao County.

In the early morning of May 24, the troops set off from Yuyao and advanced rapidly towards Ningbo. They were not afraid of fatigue, endured hunger and thirst, and fought fiercely when encountering the enemy. The leading troops arrived at the Jiangbei suburb of Ningbo at 15:00 that day. The third battalion of the 191st Regiment arrived near Shiqi in the southern suburbs of Ningbo and intercepted the enemy Zhejiang Security Regiment and captured more than 240 people including the captain and deputy commander. The 195th Regiment encountered 663 enemies in Xishan and Dongshan of Cicheng. The first part of the regiment crossed the river on foot and chased an enemy company, forcing them to surrender. The 197th regiment and the division's reconnaissance company captured dozens of enemies in Beishan, Cixi, entered Luotuo Bridge, and annihilated another enemy company. On that day, Cixi County (now Cicheng) was liberated. Due to the rapid advance of our army, the enemy defending the city of Ningbo had no intention of defending the city. The enemy's 87th Army headquarters had fled Zhenhai. Only a portion of the enemy's 221st Division was left in the city to plunder property and attempt to destroy the Lingqiao. Our 195th Regiment learned of the military situation and said, " The "Xuchang Company" crossed the Yongjiang River from Xiabaisha. During the crossing, the company broke through the enemy's barbed wire fence in the river, climbed over 6 bamboo fences, and inserted itself into Muxing Street in Jiangdong; the 194th Regiment crossed the Yaojiang River via Jiangbei Bay and passed through Bei The suburban road goes straight to the east gate and joins the 195th Regiment of Lingqiao. As the enemy troops fled after hearing the news, our army only captured a small number of enemies.

In the morning of the 24th, the 66th Division of our army departed from Yuyao at the same time and advanced eastward along the north side of Hangzhou-Ningbo Road. It arrived at the west gate of Ningbo at dusk on the 24th. The 190th Regiment of the 64th Division entered the city at 22:00 on the same day. By dawn on the 25th, the entire city of Ningbo was liberated. The 22nd Army's "Lushui News" immediately published an editorial titled "Celebrating the Liberation of Ningbo".

Our army has strict discipline, and Qiu Wu's actions won praise from the citizens. Fenghua was liberated on May 25, Zhenhai was liberated on the 26th, Ninghai and Xiangshan were liberated on July 5 and 8, and Daxie Island was liberated on August 18. At this point, all mainland Zhejiang was liberated.

The second piece of information is a newspaper clipping that I treasure - the news "The Chinese People's Liberation Army liberated Ningbo last night" published and published by "Ningbo News" on May 25, 1949.

In the early morning of May 25, 1949, more than 2,000 teachers, students and workers from 10 middle schools in the city, with Trinity Middle School as the core, held a massive parade to celebrate the liberation of Ningbo. They carried Chairman Mao and Zhu Portraits of the Commander-in-Chief were painted, slogans were shouted, welcome slogans were plastered on the streets, and large posters were written at the Drum Tower, East Gate, West Gate, and South Gate, creating a scene of jubilation among the military and civilians.

Interview notes: When Ningbo was liberated 60 years ago, Zhang Jianjiang was 23 years old and a vigorous young man. Recently, under the arrangement of relevant comrades of the Municipal Party Committee's Veteran Cadres Bureau, reporters saw the "treasures" collected by the 83-year-old Zhang Jianjiang. In August 1949, the army issued this marching map. He loved collecting it and found it as a treasure. He kept it in his diary for 60 years and kept it to this day. It is very well preserved. "I want to leave this march map to my descendants," he said. The old man gave the picture to the reporter only after he promised to return it immediately after the reporter agreed to use it for this newspaper.
