Nanjing Gulou Hospital, also known as the Gulou Hospital affiliated to Nanjing University School of Medicine, was formerly a "Christian Hospital" founded by William Edward McLean, MD, a Canadian missionary funded by American Christian Church 1892. Marin was the first dean, and it was also called Marin Hospital among the people. After the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, Gulou Hospital has developed from 50 beds and 100 employees to a comprehensive third-class first-class hospital with 1460 beds and more than 2,700 employees, integrating medical treatment, teaching and scientific research. In 2008, there were more than 1.83 million emergency patients and 50,000 discharged patients. Gulou Hospital has complete departments and strong technical force. There are 32 clinical departments, 32 medical departments, research institutes and laboratories.
