How to prune peach trees in summer?
Pruning period of peach trees in summer is mostly from late May to late August. The number of pruning depends on the number of rapid growth of developing branches, generally 2 ~ 3 times for young trees and 2 ~ 2 times for old and weak trees/kloc-0. The specific pruning time is generally consistent with the long-term new shoot speed, from late May to early June, from early July to mid-July, and from mid-August to late August. The cleaning task includes the following aspects.

(1) Control strong seedlings: When pruning peach trees in summer, we should first pay attention to control strong seedlings that affect the normal growth of trunk branches as soon as possible. Prevention and control methods include pinching, twisting, cutting, pulling branches, carving and other measures to suppress the upper part and promote the lower part. In this way, nutrition can be concentrated on fruiting and flower bud formation, and new full flower buds can be promoted from lower secondary branches, thus reducing the fruiting position in the next year and preventing the fruiting from moving up. Core-picking should be carried out as soon as possible, and 5 ~ 6 nodes should be left at the initial stage of new shoot growth to remove the tender shoots at the top. When the new branch grows to about 30 cm and leaves 3 ~ 5 buds at the base, it should be twisted and sheared. Branching and carving should be combined with coring, twisting and cutting. When pulling out big branches, it is best to open them at an angle of 80, and don't flatten them. Because when the big branch is in a horizontal state, the growth of the tip is easy to weaken, and the back behind it is easy to fall off.

(2) Shaping with secondary branches: Cultivating and adjusting the elongation heads of main branches with secondary branches can accelerate the formation of crown and make the trees enter the full fruit stage in advance. The method is that when the new shoot is 40 ~ 50 cm long and there are many secondary branches in the extension head, the secondary branches with suitable growth direction and angle are selected for head change and the primary branches are cut off. Other sub-tips below the extended head of the sub-tip should be controlled by coring or twisting to ensure the growth advantage of the new head sub-tip. You can also choose lateral secondary branches with appropriate positions to cultivate new main branches and lateral branches. Secondary pruning is an important technical measure to quickly cultivate the backbone branches of peach trees, especially to control the tree potential of erect and high-yield varieties.

(3) Dense branches and disorderly branches: Peach trees are prone to dense branches and disorderly branches because of their large growth and many secondary branches in one year, so irregular branches such as competing branches, clustered branches, straight branches, overlapping branches, combined branches, whorled branches, opposite branches and cross branches should be pulled out in time. Under normal circumstances, the dense extruded branches should be kept straight, upper left and lower, and middle left in Zuo Qiang, and the aged branches should be retracted and updated to ensure the ventilation and light transmission conditions in the crown cavity.

(4) Fruit thinning to ensure yield: Practice has proved that excessive fruit thinning in the early stage of young fruit can concentrate nutrition to improve fruit setting rate, increase yield and improve quality. When thinning fruit, it can be coarse and subdivided twice, or it can be thinned once. The proportion of thinning should be determined according to the tree potential and the nutritional conditions of soil, fertilizer and water. When the tree is vigorous and the soil, fertilizer and water management conditions are good, it can be thinned and kept more, and when the tree is weak and the soil, fertilizer and water conditions are poor, it can be thinned and kept less. Leave a single fruit at each node, because the leaf area of a single fruit is relatively large, with sufficient nutrition, positive fruit shape and good quality.
