Silicone plastic effect
Which is better, augmentation rhinoplasty prosthesis, expansion body or silica gel?

Histocompatibility

Silicone prosthesis is composed of silicone molecules. This substance has certain irritation to our human tissues and cells, especially those with thin skin on the back of nose. After implantation, the skin and subcutaneous tissue may become thinner or the subcutaneous capillaries may be dilated and congested, the skin on the back of the nose may be shiny and red, and the tip of the nose may become sharp. In addition, due to the rejection of autologous tissue, a thin fibrous capsule will be formed around the prosthesis, and capsule contracture may occur in severe cases.

However, the tissue compatibility of the expanded body is good. Because the expansion material has extremely fine pores, blood vessels and nerves can gradually grow into the expansion body, so the capsule will not be formed after being implanted into the expansion body.

Intraoperative plasticity

Silicone prosthesis itself has the basic shape of nose, which can be carved at will, and can be prefabricated into nose prosthesis with various shapes and models such as nose tip, nose wing and nose column. It has good elasticity and strong three-dimensional sense, but it feels poor.

Although the expanded material has some flexibility, its elasticity and three-dimensional sense are poor, so it is not suitable for carving and shaping, and the effect of supporting the nose column and tip is not good. However, because the expanded material is soft and closely attached to the autologous tissue after implantation, the postoperative appearance and feel are more natural and realistic.
