Jiangling county, which belongs to Jingzhou City, Hubei Province, is located in the south-central part of Hubei Province, west of Jianghan Plain, north bank of Jingjiang reach of the Yangtze River, southeast suburb of Jingzhou City, bordering Jianli City and Qianjiang City in the east, Gongan County across the river in the west, Shishou City in the south and Shashi District in Jingzhou City in the north. Jiangling has a long history. King Wen of Chu ascended the throne in the eighth year of King Zhouzhuang (689 BC), and moved the capital from Danyang (now Ji, 5000 meters north of Jingzhou) to the twenty-ninth year of King Qin (278 BC). Since then, 20 successive kings of Chu have built their capital here for more than 400 years, with palaces and castles all over Jiangling and Qianjiang.
