Bethel Hospital, the predecessor of the Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, was established in 192 1. 1952 was renamed Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, and 1964 officially became the Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Second Medical University. It's a third-class first-class hospital.

20 1 14 years 10 months, with the consent of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the resources of the Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine and the Third People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine (formerly Baosteel Hospital, a tertiary general hospital) were integrated, uniformly distributed and managed.

In August, 20021,the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine was selected as the 20th National Youth Civilization.
