Southern Medical University (Southern Medical University), located in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, is one of the first batch of national key universities in the country and the only one in Guangdong Province established by the "ministries and provinces".

One of the first eight universities in the country to offer an eight-year major in clinical medicine. It is the only medical school among the key high-level universities in Guangdong Province and the first batch of outstanding doctors (traditional Chinese medicine) education and training in the country. The school was formerly known as the First Military Medical University of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. It was founded in 1951. In 1979, it was identified as a national key university.
