1. In winter, wisteria will go into dormancy, all flowers and leaves will fall off, and pruning branches is very convenient. At this time, it needs to be pruned again, leaving only 2-3 buds on each branch, and the rest of the buds need to be pruned. In addition, the side branches of the branchlets that do not grow vigorously on the plants should be cut off. This can reduce the consumption of nutrients, let plants concentrate nutrients on the remaining branches, and ensure that enough flowers can be produced. After pruning in winter, the plants should be placed at a temperature between 5- 10℃. At this time, it is in a dormant period, so putting it in such an environment is more conducive to its dormancy and is very beneficial to its growth and flowering in the coming year.
(1) Pruning and shaping: wisteria trees have different growth forms. When pruning, wisteria trees can be pruned and reshaped according to personal preference, and they can be pruned into inclined stems or vertical branches, and the long branches are cut short, and the branches that affect the growth of plants are cut off.
(2) Maintenance and thinning: Wisteria grows vigorously. Therefore, in the process of wisteria maintenance, the plants should be thinned regularly. When wisteria has too long branches, too dense branches and branches that affect growth, it should be cut off in time to reduce the long-term consumption of nutrients and promote the growth of wisteria.
(3) Pruning after flowering: After the wisteria tree blooms, the disastrous flower branches and all kinds of useless branches should be pruned in time, and the branches of that year should be pruned15cm to ensure the main growth of the plant, which is beneficial to the vigorous growth of the wisteria tree and promotes the natural drooping of the big flower spike in spring and when flowering.
(4) Shrinkage and pruning of long branches: In winter, wisteria trees will enter a dormant period, when the plants grow slowly. It is necessary to comb the branches of wisteria tree and shrink and prune the branches that grow too long, but at least three to five bud points will be reserved to promote the flowering in the next spring and avoid unnecessary nutrient consumption.
2. If wisteria is planted in the north, the best way to preserve it is to move the outdoor wisteria to a room without heating, or to a room with a lower temperature such as a balcony facing the north. On the one hand, it can prevent the outdoor temperature from being too low and the wisteria from being frostbitten; On the other hand, it can also prevent the heating from overheating in winter in the north, and let the hibernating wisteria wake up.
3. If you can't move indoors in the north, you can also follow the example of the south, bury the flowerpot in the soil, keep the temperature of the flowerpot, then spread it on the ground with plastic film, and then cover it with straw and soil for insulation. Branches also need to be wrapped in straw and plastic film to keep warm. Generally speaking, the temperature of wisteria in winter should be between 5 degrees Celsius and minus 5 degrees Celsius.
