Since Shang Dynasty, Hanfu has been constantly improving and developing. So, what are the Hanfu in the past dynasties?
I. Western Zhou Dynasty
The Zhou Dynasty was established by the feudal system and had a very strict class system, whether it was etiquette or clothing. Especially clothes. As a symbol of class division, it is one of the foundations of legislation, and the regulations are very strict.
Hanfu in this period generally followed the clothing system of Shang Dynasty, but it changed slightly in details. First of all, the style of clothes is slightly looser than that of Shang Dynasty. Sleeves have developed into two styles, large and small, and collars are generally crossed with right collars. Buttons are not needed, usually tied on the waist, and some have jade ornaments hanging on their waists. The length of the skirt or trousers is as short as the knee and as long as the ground.

Second, the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period
During this period, an important Hanfu-deep clothes was born. That is, a straight gown, which wraps the clothes and petticoat together, cuts them separately but sews them up and down, hence the name "the quilt is deep".
Shenfu continues the characteristics of Hanfu with one collar and one right collar, which has great influence on society. Both men and women can wear it, regardless of grade. Skirts are divided into two styles: arc and straight. The difference in appearance lies in whether there is a circumferential pattern in the lower body.
In addition, because the textile printing and dyeing technology has been very developed in this period, compared with the past, many complex and gorgeous patterns have appeared in Hanfu.

Third, the Han Dynasty
The Han Dynasty was one of the most important and outstanding dynasties in China, and it was also from this period that civilians began to wear worsted clothes.
In the Han dynasty, deep clothes and straight bars were not only worn by men, but also the most common clothes among women's clothes. First of all, it is a curved deep dress, which has the remarkable characteristics of tight and long enough to mop the floor. Its hem is generally trumpet-shaped, showing the gentleness and elegance of women. In terms of sleeves, there are two styles: wide and narrow, and cuffs are mostly wrapped. At the same time, the collar part is very distinctive, generally a cross collar, and the neckline is very low to expose underwear. Wear a few clothes, and the collar of each layer will be exposed, up to more than three layers, which is called "triple clothes".
This kind of dress, straight-back, appeared as early as the Western Han Dynasty, but because ancient trousers had no crotch, only two trouser legs were put on the knees and tied around the waist with belts, they could not be used as formal clothes.
If you wear these pants, be sure to cover them with a coat, or they will be exposed, so wear a dark coat outside. However, with the increasingly complete clothing, the form of pants has also been improved, and crotch pants have appeared. Coupled with the improvement of underwear, it is redundant to surround the deep clothes in front, so after the Eastern Han Dynasty, the straight line gradually became popular, replacing the deep clothes.
In addition, the tight-fitting clothes with narrow sleeves in Han Dynasty. After many twists and turns, the clothes were wrapped around the hips and tied with ribbons. There are also exquisite and gorgeous patterns painted on the clothes.
Also in the Han Dynasty, as one of the most important forms of women's clothing in China, Fu skirt's style also changed. Generally speaking, the waist is very short, while the skirt is very long and hangs to the ground.
However, although the style of the skirt has changed, only the length and width have changed during the more than two thousand years from the Warring States to the Ming Dynasty, and the basic shape has always maintained the original style.
The development of Hanfu to the Han Dynasty basically laid the foundation for the costumes of subsequent dynasties, and the perfection and development of Hanfu in subsequent dynasties were basically based on this. However, in the development of later generations, due to the integration of cultural factors of other nationalities, new styles have also been created or derived.
