Shanghai University of Engineering Science is a full-time ordinary institution of higher learning in which the disciplines of engineering, economy, management, art and design permeate and develop harmoniously. It is the first batch of pilot institutions of the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan" of the Ministry of Education, the leading unit of new engineering construction in local universities nationwide, and the pilot construction unit of "High-level Local Applied University" in Shanghai.

At present, the school has 13 master's authorization points, 8 master's authorization points and 63 undergraduate majors. Mechanical engineering, vehicle engineering, computer science and technology, information management and information system, business administration, marketing, tourism management, chemical engineering and technology, pharmaceutical engineering, environmental engineering, product design, fashion design and engineering, and transportation were selected as national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites.

There are currently 0/977 faculty members, including more than 500 teachers engaged in teaching and scientific research, 6/0/0.4% teachers with doctoral degrees and 678 senior professional and technical positions. At present, the school has 25 national talents, including 4 academicians of China Academy of Engineering. There are 9 experts who enjoy the special government allowance of the State Council, and they have been approved for provincial and ministerial talents and talent projects 104.

The first unit approved 52 projects of the National Social Science Fund, including 202 1 Key Projects of the National Social Science Fund 1, and 2022 Key Projects of the National Social Science Fund 1 to study and explain the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee; Approved the key project of philosophy and social science research of the Ministry of Education 1 and the key project of the Ministry of Education of the National Education Science Plan 1.
