Why did the Kuomintang's military uniforms used to be gray, and why did the warlords change to green later?
The uniform of the National Revolutionary Army (that is, the Kuomintang Army) initially followed the uniform style of the student army of Huangpu Military Academy during the Northern Expedition, with the Chinese tunic suit cut from gray cotton cloth as the main one. However, at the beginning of the Anti-Japanese War after the warlord scuffle, the summer dress of the Central Army of the National Government was replaced by a military uniform with yellow-green as the standard color.

Why is this happening? It turned out that this was suggested by a German consultant hired by Chiang Kai-shek. As long as you read the article by the late historian Professor Huang Renyu, you will know that this color of summer clothes has been the main uniform color adopted by the Central Army of the National Government from 193 1 to 1942, and later it was changed to khaki summer clothes.

In addition to the yellow-green uniforms, some troops also wore khaki uniforms before and after the Anti-Japanese War (such as the 87th and 88th Divisions of the Central Army of the National Government during the Anti-Japanese War in Songhu).

In the original local warlord troops, most of the northern troops were mainly gray cotton-padded jacket, and even local troops had many gray cotton-padded jacket. In addition, according to the literature, the armies of Guangdong and Guangxi (Li Zongren, Gui Jun of Bai Chongxi and Guangdong Army of Yu Hanmou) wore khaki uniforms. Long Yun's Yunnan Army is a blue-green military uniform, which may be influenced by the French army. At the beginning of World War I, the French army wore uniforms of this color.
