Articles 10 and 1 1 of the North Atlantic Treaty stipulate the procedures for other countries to join NATO: the contracting parties unanimously agree to invite any other European country that can promote the principles of this Treaty and contribute to the security of the North Atlantic region to join this Treaty. Any invited country can become a party to the Treaty by depositing an instrument of accession with the Government of the United States of America.
