Canada established the first ice hockey association in the world in 1890, the International Skating Federation was established in the Netherlands in 1892, the first men's speed skating championship was held in Amsterdam in 1893, and the International Ice Hockey Federation was established in France in 1908. Pierre De Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic Games, suggested holding the Winter Olympic Games alone.
