I. Overview

The Capital Library has a history of more than 80 years since its establishment. After more than 80 years' careful collection, arrangement and accumulation, we have collected a rich collection of ancient books, including rare fine prints and ancient books at home and abroad, as well as complete and rich ancient novels, operas and folk works.

Part of the sources of these ancient books are the old collections of Shi Jing Branch Library, Shi Jing Public Library and Zhongshan Library, and books purchased after the founding of the People's Republic of China. The other part is the ancient books collected by Beijing Comte Middle School and French Library in Beijing after liberation, which were handed over to the Capital Library. 1953, Wu Han ordered the confiscation of books from the old entity library of the Ministry of Finance, books purchased after 1957 and books from other sources (such as books donated by Ma). Among them, the municipal government donated 3669 books1book with 3523 kinds, and the horse donated 208 books1book with 707 kinds. At present, the books from these four sources are still on the shelves according to the classification of A, B, C and D. Among these ancient books, literature (novels, operas and popular literature), medical books, local chronicles and Buddhist scriptures have many varieties and better versions, which constitute the collection characteristics of ancient books in the Capital Library. In addition to ancient books, the Capital Library also has ancient calligraphy and painting 1842 kinds, 2,568 pieces (axes and pages) and inscriptions 1969 kinds.

The ancient books in the Capital Library are divided into rare books, ordinary thread-bound books, new rare books (publications in liberated areas), special literature paintings and inscriptions. They are stored in online loading library and rare book library respectively. There are 3,324 kinds and 3,320 volumes of rare books, including national rare books 1 159 14996, and museum rare books 2 165 18243. There are 43,702 kinds of ordinary thread-bound books with 349,433 volumes. National rare books refer to books whose rare books and ancient books have been appraised by experts and listed in the national rare books catalogue; The museum is good, but there are other better versions before Qianlong, but it is not good enough for the country. Rare books and ordinary thread-bound books are classified by classics, history, volumes, collections and clusters according to the four-part classification of books determined when compiling Sikuquanshu in the thirty-second year of Qing Qianlong. Others, such as books donated by the municipal government and books donated by horses, have not been catalogued (the number of ordinary thread-bound books is limited to the number in the property account). The collection status of rare ancient books is as follows: the classics, history, books, collections and collections are 72 volumes, 438 volumes, 1492 volumes, 1283 volumes and 39 volumes respectively, totaling 3,324 volumes.

Second, the characteristics

Because the predecessor of the first picture was built earlier and has a long history, various libraries have accumulated a lot of ancient books in their own development process. There are two characteristics of ancient books in the collection: first, there are few versions, many of which are precious engravings and manuscripts at home and abroad. The earliest editions were Song, Yuan and Ming. According to statistics, there are 5 Song editions, 32 Yuan editions and 987 Ming editions. Details are as follows:

Fourth, China ancient opera books.

The first person who used the word "drama" in history was Tao of Yuan Dynasty. He wrote in the Record of the School of Nancun: "There were legends in the Tang Dynasty and operas, singing and speaking words in the Song Dynasty. Jin has books, zaju and tunes. " But the opera mentioned here refers to the song zaju before the Yuan Zaju came into being. Since modern Wang Guowei, "drama" has been regarded as the general name of China's traditional drama culture, including Southern Opera in Song and Yuan Dynasties, Zaju in Yuan and Ming Dynasties, Legends in Ming and Qing Dynasties, Modern Peking Opera and all local operas.

The development history of China opera has gone through various stages, such as gestation, germination, formation, development and prosperity. The "Hundred Dramas" in the Han Dynasty, "Joining the Army" and "Walking Mother" in the Sui and Tang Dynasties, Zaju in the Northern Song Dynasty, Jin Yuan edition and other plays are only scattered in the notes and poems of predecessors, and no scripts have been handed down. By the end of the Northern Song Dynasty, southern operas (also known as "operas") appeared in Zhejiang and Fujian. The existing Zhang Xie's No.1 Scholar is the oldest Southern Opera script that can be seen in China at present. In the Yuan Dynasty, Yuan Zaju appeared in the north. There are more than 1000 writers who can test Yuan Zaju, and there are six or seven hundred kinds of dramas recorded in writing. In addition, a number of outstanding playwrights such as Guan Hanqing, Wang Shifu, Bai Pu and Ma Zhiyuan have appeared, and they have created such well-known works as Dou Eyuan, Wu Tongyu, Climbing the Wall Immediately, Saving the Wind and Dust, and Autumn in the Han Palace. At the end of Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of Ming Dynasty, Southern Opera entered a new historical period, and a new genre-legend appeared. In the Ming Dynasty, legendary scripts replaced zaju as the general name of Ming drama. In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, Kunqu opera was once very popular. After the mid-Qing Dynasty, the emblem class in Beijing flourished and later developed into "Peking Opera" and "National Opera" in China.

The development of drama culture for thousands of years has left a rich cultural heritage today. From all kinds of plays, we can see the development of economy, culture, art, language, customs and people's feelings in different historical periods, which provides rich and informative materials for us to study the history of ancient drama, cultural history, customs and people's feelings. For thousands of years, opera art has been deeply loved by the broad masses of the people. They not only went to see the drama performance, but also talked about performing scripts, actors' performances, opera costumes, lines singing and so on. Some people even make great efforts to copy the scripts one by one for themselves and their friends to enjoy. Therefore, many plays have been handed down so that future generations can browse quickly.

Over the past 80 years, the Capital Library has collected a large number of 2768 kinds of drama manuscripts. Including ancient drama script legends, zaju, Sanqu; Kunqu Opera, Beijing Opera, and Shaanxi Opera. It is the script of local opera; Qu Pu, Qu Yun, theoretical works of traditional Chinese opera, etc. Among them, rare edition 1573 species. For example, in the script, there are four versions of Peony Pavilion, which is the masterpiece of Tang Xianzu, a great dramatist of the Ming Dynasty. The earliest and best edition is the printed version of Yu Hai Tang by Zhu during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. Li Yu, a famous dramatist in the Qing Dynasty, published ten books of The Legend of Emperor Kangxi and fourteen books of Shengpingsi (the institution in charge of court drama in the Qing Dynasty, which was renamed "Fu Nan" when it was in Qianlong). Others include Yuan Qu Xuan, Kunqu Opera and some famous dramas, such as Pipa, The White Rabbit, The West Chamber, Four Sounds Ape, The Orphan of Zhao, Luo Temple, Autumn Tiger Beating His Wife, Leifeng Pagoda, Fairy Palace and Peach Blossom Fan. In particular, the Mongolian Che Wang Mi Qu Ben is a treasure in our library. Most of the ancient opera books in the collection are Beijing opera editions, in addition to drum words, zaju, and children's books. This part of ancient books was published between Daoguang and Guangxu. In popular literature, there are 432 kinds of baojuan and 27 kinds of words (rap literature)1,among which rare books 1 1. The following are explained separately.

(a), the Qing Dynasty Mongolian car Tibetan songs:

"Che Wang Mi Qu Ben" is the general name of the manuscripts of traditional operas and Quyi collected by Khan Wang Fu of Chechnya, Mongolia in the Qing Dynasty, and it is also a script sung by the troupe in the government. During the Republic of China, this batch of Le Shu flowed out of the car and was bought by Beijing Comte School in two batches in the 1920s. Then it was transferred to the library for collection. The Quben written by Mongolian Che in Qing Dynasty is a vast masterpiece of traditional Chinese opera, including 1600 kinds of traditional Chinese opera tracks and more than 44,000 volumes. These books are collected in Capital Library, Peking University Library and Sun Yat-sen University Library, among which the first one is the largest. The book is divided into two parts: drama and quyi. Among traditional operas, Peking Opera is the most popular, followed by Kunqu Opera and Yiyang Opera (high-pitched), and others include Shaanxi Opera, Blowing Opera and Shadow Play. The more valuable content of this book is the Quyi part, including rap drum lyrics, Zidishu, Kuaishu, Paiziqu, Tea Qu, Lotus Falls, seasonal tunes, etc., among which there are Matou Tune, Taiping Year, Xijiangyue, December, Fujian Tune, Sichuan Tune and other tunes. The Quyi part includes the second batch of Quben purchased by the former Comte School, which has never been published so far and is a treasure. Among the various forms of Quyi, Guci, Zidishu and Peking Opera account for a large proportion. Most of them are works of Ming and Qing Dynasties, and most of them are works of Daoguang and Guangxu. Quben's works are widely drawn from historical stories and legends of the Yin and Zhou Dynasties, as well as classical literary masterpieces that have been adapted, circulated and polished. More importantly, many Quyi works have a lot of descriptions of social life and customs in Beijing at that time.

During the period from Daoguang to Guangxu in Qing Dynasty, China Kunqu opera gradually declined and local operas rose. It is a precious historical material for the study of China opera and rap art in the past hundred years, which fills the gap in the transition period from Kunqu opera to Beijing opera. At the same time, it is also the first-hand information to study the people's feelings, customs, ethnic relations, religious beliefs and other aspects of the Qing Dynasty from prosperity to decline. Qu Ben's works are rich in language and retain many popular dialects at that time, which are of great literary and artistic value. In a word, Quben has attracted the attention of contemporary experts and scholars who study cultural history, drama history and popular literature. Ou Yangyuqian, a famous late opera artist, praised it as "the crystallization of China's modern old plays, which is of great artistic value", while Wang Jisi, a famous educator and scholar, compared the discovery of this song with the documents of Anyang Oracle Bone Inscriptions and Dunhuang. Weng Ouhong, a contemporary dramatist, playwright and drama critic, wrote a poem saying: "Che Wang loves to have fun, and the corals in the iron net are vividly picked, and the pearls in the sea make him look back."

Quben fills the historical blank of China's traditional opera and rap literature in the past century and provides researchers with rare materials. As early as the 1920s, scholars of the older generation, such as Gu, Gang, Liu Bannong and so on, had done a lot of research on this. Qi Yanming, the former Minister of Culture, once spoke highly of it and organized experts from all over the country to study its arrangement, intending to excavate it, but it was abandoned because of the Cultural Revolution. At present, the leaders of the Capital Library attach great importance to it. In order to excavate the collection materials and carry forward the national culture, the Capital Library has set up a research and arrangement group for car works. With the support and guidance of Mr. Weng Ouhong, Mr. Zhu Jiajin from the Palace Museum, Mr. Hou Yushan, a famous Kunqu performer, Mr. Wang Jisi from Sun Yat-sen University, Mr. Wu Xiaoling, a famous drama researcher, Mr. Guan Dedong from Shandong University and many experts and scholars in literature and drama research, 199 1 year, Due to the high price and few print runs, the Qing Dynasty and Mongolia Che Wang Mi's music book was published in 1993, and the Qing Dynasty Che Wang Mi's Tibetan music book (edited by Nazi) was published in 1994, which achieved good social and economic benefits and became a great event in the collation and publication of ancient books in China.

(2), the Qing court drama:

The whole drama created and performed by the Qing court was influenced by the prosperity and development of novels and operas in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. As far as novels are concerned, masterpieces such as Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Water Margin and The Journey to the West have appeared one after another, which have become rich sources of script themes. As far as its form is concerned, the legend developed on the basis of southern opera in Song and Yuan Dynasties has reached a quite perfect stage. Kunqu opera has a large audience and writers come forth in large numbers. Arranging, dressing and decorating have been greatly improved, which has opened up a broader road for court dramas. At that time, the well-known and influential repertoires were "Persuading the Good Golden Branch", "Shengping Bao Raft", "Zhi Ding Chunqiu", "Loyalty" and "Zhao Shao".

Zhi Ding Chunqiu was written for Zhou Xiangyu and Zou Jinsheng, which perfunctory the historical stories of Wei, Shu and Wu. The collection of Zhi Ding Chunqiu (A 4 2 1, the call number of the Capital Library, the same below) is a clear banknote book with 20 volumes and two seals, divided into 10 volumes and 240 volumes, which is an isolated book in China.

Jinke Quan Shan is the waiting Zhang Zhao in Qing Dynasty. It tells the story of saving the mother, but it is set in the middle of the Tang Dynasty, interspersed with Li Xilie's rebellion and the martyrdom of Yan Zhenqing and Duan. The collection contains a volume, 100, and a letter called "The Yongzheng Period of Qing Dynasty" (A 469). Is an orphan in the country.

Sheng Ping Bao Raft was also written by Zhang Zhao in Qing Dynasty, also known as The Journey to the West (Jiasi 1520), which tells the story of Xuanzang's learning from the scriptures. The main plot is based on the novels of Wu Cheng'en and The Journey to the West, and the compilation is clear. In 2400, two volumes 10 were published.

The author of Ice Bamboo is unknown, with a collection of 100 volumes and two letters. It is an orphan in China, and Quhai Mu Zong is not included.

Other rare books and rare books in the collection include 5 kinds of old banknotes (including Yu Ting Ji Fu, Sui Qing, Taihe Baohe, Mian Chang Xie Qing, Fan Ximao, etc.), 20 faithful books and 75 mixed boxes.

Palace dramas in Qing Dynasty were all written by poets. Due to the tight creative deadline and lack of talents, they have to turn to novels and plays with similar themes written by previous writers, and also learn a lot of popular folk customs. These court dramas have preserved many lost script fragments, which are very beneficial to the study of the history of China opera.

There are many palace dramas in the Qing Dynasty in the Capital Library, most of which are rare books of China, which is a valuable cultural wealth.

(3) Books presented by Mr. Ma:

Mr. Ma is a famous drama writer, director and theorist in China. Before he died, he donated some of his books to the first painting collection. In the first picture, there are also some traditional Chinese opera manuscripts, such as "Fragrance in the Empty Valley" and "Tianxiang Festival", which are all good books that are difficult for ordinary people to read. These books are beautifully reproduced and have high literary value and appreciation value.

(4) Book tickets and single-volume Tibetan operas:

This part is the most abundant part in the opera manuscripts of the Capital Library. This part of the opera manuscripts, a large number, uneven quality, mainly Beijing Opera and Kunqu Opera manuscripts. For example, The Legend of No Xiang Qiu, The Legend of Double Red Silk and Serial Stories are all rare books of China. Others, such as twenty-nine miscellaneous books, thirty-four miscellaneous books and twenty-two miscellaneous books, all have certain data value. Although these works have different values, they can fully reflect the development of drama in a historical period.

(5) Others:

Apart from the upper part, there are also some manuscripts of the original Comte School and the Shengping School in the museum.

The number of these manuscripts is small, but the quality is good, such as Three Biographies of Tang Shuyu, Double Happiness, Double Happiness, Fishing Boat, No Xiang Qiu, Qianqiu Sword and so on.

Verb (abbreviation of verb) popular literature

There are 18 kinds of ancient books in popular literature, such as baojuan, tanci, guci, folk songs, miscellaneous songs, songbooks, cross talk, ventriloquism, riddles and wine orders. Among the local chronicles are Wu Junzhi, which was published in Jiguge, Shi Mao in the eighth year of Chongzhen in Ming Dynasty (1635), Shaanxi Tongzhi, which was published in the fiftieth year of Kangxi in Qing Dynasty (171year), and the thirteenth year of Yongzheng (170/year).

There are 32 kinds of meta-edition books in the first picture, most of which are Buddhist scriptures. Twenty-one kinds of Buddhist scriptures are rare books. Such as Tang Shi Xuanzang's translation, Yuan Kepuning's Tibetan version of the Great Prajna Paramita Sutra; In the 18th year of Shaoxing in Song Dynasty (AD1131-KLOC-0/62), the Buddhist sutra Amitabha, which was carved by Kaiyuan Temple in Fuzhou, was one of the Buddhist scriptures translated by Xuanzang in Tang Dynasty and also carved in Song Dynasty. For example, Huai Su's Qian Zi Wen in Tang Dynasty, Zhao's Luo Shen Fu in Yuan Dynasty, and Song's cursive script. These ancient paintings were written by Xinyu Pu, Qi Baishi and Li Keran. After the inscription was put into Tibet, it has not been officially lent out due to conditions, and the calligraphy and painting have not been put on hold. It is difficult to find and it is impossible to lend out. In order to excavate the valuable materials in the collection and make it play its due role, a set of Catalogue of Epitaphs in the Collection is being compiled. Words and paintings have been sorted according to "treasures" and "general", and further identification, processing and sorting are needed.

X. Document circulation

The rich and colorful collection of ancient books has long attracted Chinese and foreign readers, ancient book researchers and publishers to explore, study, sort out and make use of it. In order to prolong the service life of thread-bound books, the capital library only borrows ancient books from people with corresponding jobs, intermediate titles or above or certain tasks. In recent years, the readers of the museum include individual researchers, publishers and researchers, especially those who compile historical books. The rich and colorful collection of ancient books is like a treasure house, which has attracted Chinese and foreign readers and ancient book researchers for a long time. The Capital Library actively and enthusiastically provides them with the services they need, and at the same time develops and sorts them out by itself, which has produced positive social benefits. Take the novels in ancient books for example. Historically, as early as1913-1921year, when the library was the capital public library, Mr. Lu Xun often came to the library to borrow thread-bound books (see Lu Xun's Diary), Lu Xun's masterpieces Hooking Ancient Novels and A Brief History of the Development of China Novels. The above works have become the necessary reference books for novel researchers, with high academic influence, and are regarded as the necessary desk reference books. Provide relevant materials for the compilation and publication of the preface and postscript of the Collection of Qing People by the Institute of Ancient Books of Nankai University, and provide materials for the edition study of Jin Ping Mei Academic Research Association; Provide information such as ancient books, costumes and props for some film studios to shoot feature films and documentaries.

Some domestic publishing houses also come to consult novels, choose better versions and sort out and publish new books. For example, Zhonghua Book Company edited and photocopied this series of ancient novels according to the planning of the leading group for the collation of ancient books in the State Council, among which two books were selected, The Complete Biography of Good and Evil and Four Friends in the Ghost Valley. Shanghai Ancient Books Publishing House photocopied and published Integration of Ancient Novels, and selected eleven books, such as Legend of Ghosts, Sword of Clutch, Crossing the Rainbow, New Police Book and Dream of Red Mansions. The ancient books in the Capital Library are rich in content. As the cultural heritage and knowledge treasure house of the motherland, they are being deeply excavated and utilized to serve the society.

XI。 File arrangement

In order to make better and more convenient use of the collection, the Capital Library has always insisted on sorting out ancient books by itself, compiling bibliographic indexes, answering questions and consulting, and cooperating with relevant units to compile dictionaries to reveal the collection.
